UK Games Expo Tournament.

So I'm going to a Tournament on Sunday and with my usual forward planning have completely failed to decide what army list I'm taking...

Unfortunately It's only 1500 points but you can't have it your own way all of the time I suppose, lol.

I think I've finally narrowed my list choices down to this one.

  1. seems to have most bases covered except for long drawn out cc but i reckon you can dakka most stuff down before that. i think my foot slogging orks (154+ bodies) could prove tricky but not a major headache.

let me know how tempests wrath works out as its a power i really want to try out with my expanded wolves.

  2. I tried out the Lascannon Sponson Predators yesterday and they worked out rather well. They do mean I have to put The MM/HF speeders back in as Anti-Infantry but that's a compromise I only have to make at 1500 points. At 1750 I can have my Typhoons back ;-)

Tempests Wrath is very useful for putting a dent in Blood Angels Jump Pack armies as dangerous terrain tests don't allow you to make armour saves which also means no Feel no Pain saves either. It's also quite amusing when squadroned Landspeeders roll a 1 for dangerous terrain tests, immobilise themselves and then count as dead due to the squadron rules ;-)

  3. that was what caught my eye about it, i know a certain airline will not be too happy about it ;)

  4. I'm not a fan of 1500 points as it makes it difficult to write a balanced list.
At 1500 you always have to make some compromise that puts you at a disadvantage against certain builds. Basically at 1500 there's always a 'rock' to your 'scissors' or a 'paper' to your 'rock'.

I suppose I best make those Lascannon Sponsons tonight as I've been proxying in the test games.

  5. i kinda feel thats a good thing, bigger games like the ridiculous 2500pts mean you can include literally everything, being able to deal with your weakness and faults makes games more interesting, i think any higher than 2000 is too much for a normal game.

the skill in the army lists at 1500 is being able to have the rock paper and scissors in place to be effective against as much as you can be, whilst knowing what to do against the build your not as effective against.

at least you don't have a full army to paint by sunday!

  6. The other downside to 1500 is that all effective armies end up identical because most of the choices become bloody obvious.

Yes, I have learnt my lesson after that time I wrote an army list 9 days before a tournament almost completely full of stuff I didn't have and then had to assemble, paint and playtest it in less than a fortnight, lol.

  7. So, I've made the Lascannon Sponsons and after a quick model check realised that I haven't painted my Rune Priest/Librarian/Chaos Sorcerer/Generic Marine Psychic guy yet.
Looks like I'll have some last minute painting to do after all, lol

  8. i think the lists ending up identical is poor thought from designers as each book should feature multiple lists of roughly equal competitiveness. (but some armies i agree my vulkan list ended up very similar to mikes lysander one.

and it wouldn't be a tourney if you were ready well before hand :P least you have a few days and only a few things to do this time.

  9. The newer books are (a little) better but at 1500 all competitive Eldar, Tau, Chaos, etc. lists are pretty much the same.
