Space Marine Bikers at 1500 points

A guy named Alex at my FLGS has bought himself 4 boxes of the above in order to build himself a Space Marine Bike army.

I did exactly the same thing so I know it's a bloody good way of doing it on the cheap (ish).

My (admittedly brief) testing of Bike lists forced me to accept that it CANT be done competitively without the Command Squad.

Taking into account that he's already built himself a Librarian on Bike and has Landspeeders in the kit I'd probably do something like this.

Editors Note : Well spotted Grav - forgot to give the command squad bikes, lol. had to drop a speeder to compensate ;-)

1500 Pts - Space Marine Bikes for Alex

HQ: Space Marine Captain (1#, 190 pts)
1 Space Marine Captain @ 190 pts (...in Power Armour)
1 ...in Power Armour (Digital Weapons; Artificer Armour; Space Marine Bike; Bolt Pistol; Relic Blade x1)

1 Space Marine Librarian @ 135 pts (...in Power Armour; Null Zone; The Avenger)

7 Space Marine Bike Squad @ 310 pts (Meltagun x2; Attack Bike)
1 Attack Bike (Multi-Melta)

Troops: Space Marine Bike Squad (9#, 310 pts)
7 Space Marine Bike Squad @ 310 pts (Meltagun x2; Attack Bike)
1 Attack Bike (Multi-Melta)

1 Land Speeder Squadron @ 90 pts (Typhoon Missile Launcher x1)

Fast Attack: Land Speeder Squadron (1#, 90 pts)
1 Land Speeder Squadron @ 90 pts (Typhoon Missile Launcher x1)

Total Roster Cost: 1500

Personally I'd go pure bikes and live without the Librarian and put some speeders (or the Librarian if you really want him) back in at higher points values.

Something like this,

  1. lolz..

    Why the foot command squad??

Better check the points cost too. It's 285 as you have it now.

4 Meltaguns on the command squad is too much

  3. @ Grav - well spotted - I've changed the command squad. May need to rethink the whole thing a little as I personally wouldn't have the Librarian anyway.

  4. i like the librarian as it gives you a very mobuile psychic hood and null zone is immense when combined with power weapons and reltentless/FNP plasma guns

  5. also, the land speeders are necessary for taking things off of 2nd floors as bikes cant go up stairs can they? (i appreciate that sounds sarcastic but it's not me4ant to, is that a rule or is it one we just assumed was there?)

  6. @ Mike - Bikes can't go up buildings as far as I'm aware, but you should be able to shoot something of an objective anyway. If your opponents entire strategy is based on hiding his objective up a building then he will just kill your speeders in the first few turns anyway.

Psychic defence is nice to have as is null zone but at 1500 points he's going to have to compromise somewhere. His original list didn't even have a command squad in it and would therefore be unable to kill anything of even moderate toughness.

Bike armies don't work well till the 1750 point mark (at the very least) imo.
