Fast Attack: Baal Predator (1#, 145 pts)
1 Baal Predator @ 145 pts (Heavy Bolter)

Total Roster Cost: 2000

Scout Squad camps on objective surrounded by the Devastators, all of which sit in a nice 'Feel no Pain' bubble from 1 (or both) of the Sanguinary Priests.
Librarian helps with psychic defence or alternatively worries 'car park' deployments with his Blood Lance if he decides to 'Deep Strike' in.

13 missiles at up to 4 different targets,
7 twin-linked Assault Cannons (and 4 Heavy Bolters for good measure).
3 units with dual Melta weapons and 2 with just the one.

The Scout unit makes a reasonable counter-assault unit with their 30 attacks on the charge (most likely a 'Furious' Charge), supported by a Priest if required.

Editors Note : There are arguments for Las/Plas on the Razorbacks but that'll require some play-testing.

A brief 'Mathshammer' interlude.

Twin-Linked Assault Cannon vs. Armour 10, Open-Topped Dark Eldar Transport.
3.56 Hit, 1.19 penetrate, 0.60 chance of destruction.
reduced to 0.30 if it turbo-boosted,
and again to 0.2 if it has Flicker Fields.

That's better than a Lascannon if you'd like to work it out for yourself ;-)

Like I said at the very beginning...It's just an idea...

Thoughts , Comments and Laughs of Derision are (as usual) most welcome.

  2. i wrote a much less well thought out version for 1500 that used the 'camping' section happily sitting in the FNP bubble i rele like it.
Temps me back to the blood angels a list like that, hope you don't mind if take parts of it for when the night lords become a company

  3. @ Citizenwilliams - Take all of it or part of it it's up to you.

Sharing ideas is what the blog is here for after all ;-)

  4. true, may take me some time to aquire all the mark 6 etc parts i need though.

devistators are my next port of call they just don't feel very midnight clad :S

  5. @ Citizenwilliams - The Night Lords were all about winning through fear. Having your unit torn apart by Heavy Bolters would be pretty scary, lol. As would having your transport torn apart by Missile Launchers one would think.

Killing from a distance is still very much in character from a 'scaring the shit out of your enemy' point of view. Which incidentally is why I'm always a sniper in Fallout ;-)

  6. no thats vus you want the shiny guns :p

i do want to add more fear stuff, i'd use a librarian from blangels if it wasn't so unfluffy for a psyker (yet not seer) hating chapter

  7. Assault Cannon has a better chance than a Las Cannon or Plasma Gun, but not better than both together.

Razorbacks vs DE Raider. Chance to destory
    Plasma & Las cannon - 0.543
    TL Assault Cannon - 0.532
Double tap TL Plasma Gun - 0.433
    TL Las Cannon - 0.395
    Las cannon - 0.296

The question is are you trying to tailor your army against space Elves or have a balanced force?

  8. @ Citizenwilliams - Just think of 'Fear of the Darkness' as the 'Seer' knowing exactly what scares that particular unit due to his extensive Night Lords training program ;-)

@ Lyracian - Assault Cannons compliment the army better than Las/Plas imo. I don't need any more light anti-tank and against armour 14 I'll use the Melta units. Testing has led me to believe that Space Wolves do Las/Plas spam better anyway.

I believe all armies need to be balanced. List tailoring is right up there with punching babies as far as I'm concerned, lol.

  9. Personally I think Vampires do Las/Plas better due to being fast. Wolves are wonderful at 1500, but the other codices seem to have more options as you go to higher point levels.

  10. Interesting list GMort.

Librarians I think your cost might be wrong as they're 100 each - something missing?

Not sure on Priests with claws as I.C characters so can be picked out, I guess defending themselves but makes them expensive.

Other than that your list is same as mine minus Scouts and I have Honour Guard and las/plas Razors.

Btw, I've just e-mailed but I live in Cannock which isn't far from B'Ham, you fancy a game sometime?

  11. @ Mercer - The Librarian base cost is 100 points but he has a Jump Pack (25 points) and a combi-melta (10 points).

My Priests are modelled with a Lightning Claw so they get them by default in most lists whether they need them or not, lol.

Time is a bit tight at the moment as I'm currently retraining while still trying to earn enough to pay the bills. As soon as I have some free time I'll let you know and we can meet up for a game.

  12. Devastators are incredibly cheap with blood angels, and one of my favorite units in that codex. Combined with blood angel assault termies and assalt squads you get a very flexible and deadly force.
