Marines @ 1500

I'm going to play-test this as an alternative to my TH/SS Terminator list for the 'Throne of Skulls'.

It's basically my old tournament list with a few minor tweaks.

Total Roster Cost: 1498

Master of the Forge joins the Scouts.
Marines combat squad, Missile half sits in cover, Melta half moves forward in Rhino and hunts tanks.
Dreadnoughts add to the midfield threat.
Everything else does what it normally does...

  1. I like your tactical missile launcher conversion. It's very convincing. You should probably add more armour though.

    Trying my own list for DE 1500 for ToS too , its a bloody pain.....

    That marine list looks remarkably solid...... or maybe Im just intimidated as i cannot seem to fit jack into DE @ 1500 ...... *sulks

  3. @ Sorrowshard - The Dark Eldar Raider seems to me to be a tad overpriced once you add the necessary Flickerfield and/or Night Shield upgrades once you consider a 35 point Rhino or a 55 point Chimera basically comes fully equipped for it's role.
    Obviously they do different things but even so...

Agreed, however they are horrifically good at what they do , being able to ram a unit of lets say incubi up your opponent from 29 ish inches away is tremendous, its much much faster than a rhino has a 5++ , 'assault ramp' and everyone can shoot from within plus the DL is quite sweet compared to a storm bolter.

    to be fair I'm not sure it directly compares to a rhino , maybe a chim ?

    even if it was say ten points cheaper , its not really going to help me with the list building , the points add up so fast , and you get gouged for the things you really need .....

    I'm actually kinda avoiding the process fo writing a list I intend to commit to .....

  5. @ Sorrowshard - There's a pretty nasty 2000 point DE list up on YTTH at the moment.
    Maybe you could scale it down to 1500?

Seen it and made comment , have experimented with mini units with pistol/blaster already , not convinced , its the fucking range on the pistol that causes problems, plus with the current vehicle table , 2 blasters is fairly poop, sometimes it takes far too many lances to achieve the reault you want ? then what when half your AT is till in reserve ....

    DE seem to work best when the whole army is down and working together, plus they have no reserves mififying rules or any of the stupid stuff marines and nids get which makes deepstriking safe and accurate.

  7. As i feel its vaguely tied to this conversation and may even be played Vs your list above here is my current thinking on a 1500 ToS DE list.

    Have tried to give a spread of anti infantry and anti armour fire, i would like more lances with range , but its effectively impossible if you want to be able to hose troops too , so I guess this is a compromise of sorts.

    Just wanted to bounce this off someone really as doing DE lists for 1500 is difficult ...

    im currently suffering from "imperial stuff is better" syndrome so struggling to be objective .

  8. @ Sorrowshard - I have 11 vehicles for you to destroy and any of them that survive (or their contents in the Rhino's case) are able to threaten your vehicles so even if you go first I should still have enough shooting survive to destroy a fair number of transports.
    As 2/3rds of games are going to involve objectives I only have to kill 20 fairly delicate guys in 4 fairly fragile vehicles to win by default and to be honest the likely explosion is probably going to kill a couple anyway.
    I have nothing infantry-wise that can compete with your Archons in assault however, so should you do the same to me first I'd be in a lot of trouble. The vehicles also make 10 fairly easy kill points in Annihilation games, 5 of mine are almost as easy to kill though.
    In answer to your original question then I'd say I'd be reasonably confident if I went first and less so if you did. Either way it would be somewhat of a meat-grinder for both of us...

  9. So, are we saying the list is no good ? any ideas for possible improvement ?

    It needs to be able to contend with this sort of list , I thought 25 lances @ 1500 was pretty good and the anti infantry shooting is strong too, 90 odd splinter shots and 4 monosythes ?

    dunno where else to take it,needs more actual DL but cant drop any anti infantry.

    back to the drawing board ..

  10. @ Sorrowshard - I'm not saying it's bad it's just the 5 man troop squads that would concern me. Everything else seems fine though I'm not sure you need 2 Archons at 1500. Is there any way you can fit a couple of Haemonculi (or however it's spelled) into the list to give some of your guys 'Feel no Pain' from their token?

  11. having been playing round with dark eldar myself recently the first thing that strikes me is its a very imperial eldar list, in that you seem to be writing it as if its an imperial army. almost trying to take stuff down one on one rather than surgical strikes and picking shizzle off.

    an initial idea would at least be the DS option on venoms maybe loose the blasters on true born for cannons. thats a potential 20 str 6 rear armour shots on the DS.

    there is so much in the book you can do its crazy

    but still through that at the scoring units and they will go down quick enough. anyway the point remains.
