UK Games Expo Show Guide

I though this was worth sharing. I've gone to this event for the last few years and it's a lot of fun.

UK Games Expo 24th to 26th May

Visitor News
It is now only 18 days or so until we open the doors of the 7th UK Games Expo at the all new venue of the Birmingham Hilton Metropole at the NEC. This newsletter is a guide to the show and hopefully will answer your questions. UKGE is all about having fun and enjoying yourself. Hopefully for one weekend we can forget about the world and just enjoy the fun that gaming brings us all.

Arrival

Assuming you are travelling by road the best approach is via the M42 Junction 6.
From The North:
M6, then M42 exit at junction 6
The South:
* M40, M42 exit at junction 6
* M42 exit at junction 6
* M1, M6, M40, M42 exit at junction 6
The hotel is 200 yards from junction 6 of the M42 motorway and A45 (follow signs for NEC and Hilton Hotel).
If you are coming by Rail you can walk from Birmingham International Station. See: Venue for details

Carparking

If you are a resident all parking is FREE (assuming space remains) If you are a NON RESIDENT then parking at the hotel will cost you £5 a day but there is FREE parking on East 3 carpark for all visitors from 7pm on Friday onwards.
If all this space is full park at the Railway Station and walk through the NEC. There will be a charge.

Collect your Visitor Passes from the Library.

EVERY visitor to UKGE must have a pass and lanyard. You can collect these on arrival from the LIBRARY.
The Library is where the PREBOOKED packs will await those who have pre-booked and also where the tickets for cash sales on the day. Cash only please we cant accept cards at the desk.
You can also collect your Programme and your passport (to win a chance to win £100 of vouchers) and Awards voting forms (to vote on the best new games)
The LIbrary is also home to the Admin desk where you can book into any remaining slots in RPG Games or board game tournaments.

Open Gaming Space

There is always a need for space to just sit down, get out a game and get playing. We anticipate that the peak demands for this will be FRIDAY night and SATURDAY night but have some provision for OPEN GAMING all weekend.
Here is a list of what space is available for Open Gaming and when.
There is a BOARD GAME LIBRARY in the Library room. You can borrow games to play from here. If you want to advertise the need for additional players read about the FLAG idea.

Tournaments

UKGE runs many tournaments. You can still book into board game tournaments here MIniatures events here Card Games here ON arrival you will proceed to your tournament room. Full details of where they are will be on your tickets and in the programme.

Trade Halls.

9.30 to 5pm Saturday Trade Halls are open and from 5pm to late open gaming. (Tickets available from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm)
9.30 to 4pm Sunday Trade Halls are open. (Tickets available from 8.30 am to 4.00 pm)

Crush your parents in the Family Zone

There is a lot for the children and families to do. WE have a hugeFamily zone where you can take on your dad in a variety of great games. There is an art and craft table, Roleplaying for Children and Facepainting.

Have fun with the Costumed Groups

Every year since the first Expo we have had a vibrant and fun bunch of costumed groups along. With Daleks, Stormtroopers and the Tardis they are a big hit with the families and those of us who don't take like too seriously!

Seminar Schedule

Ask questions of the Game Designer and find out about how to go about designing and publishing games or your own books! You can even meet two actors from Dr Who.
In 2013 there will be talks by games designers, publishers and authors giving tips about getting published and even a chance to learn how to become a game designer yourself. UK Gaming Network will providing support for all the events in this room.

Saturday Evening Movies

On Saturday evening we will be showing 3 movies in the Seminar Room. Only thing is - we cant tell you which until you arrive.
One will be a Fan made short movie based on a popular Sci-Fi Comic Book Series, one a documentary linked to one of eth worlds largest SCI-Fi francises and the other one of the blockbusters from 2012.

Prototypes

Try out the prototypes of board games in the PlayTest room (in he Arden Room).and help give feedback on the new designs.
