Unboxing Malifaux - Sonnia Criid's 'The Torch and the Blade'

If in doubt, Kill it with fire...

The 'The Torch and the Blade' box contains enough parts for six miniatures...namely Sonnia Criid, her Totem the Purifying Flame (3SS), Samael Hopkins (9SS) and three Witchling Stalkers (5SS each). It also contains stat cards for each one and six upgrade cards four of which are for Sonnia Criid (one is 'limited') and one for Samael Hopkins and one that can be given to any 'Witch Hunter'.

This makes the Soulsstone value of the box...

Sonnia Criid (0), Purifying Flame (3), Samael Hopkins (9), Witchling Stalkers (5, 5, 5) Total (27) or (31) with a maximum Soulstone cache and (38) with maximum 'out of the box' upgrades.

The box has one sprue containing four sub-sections in it as well as the aforementioned cards...

Lets have a look at each of these in turn...should there be any assembly issues with any of the models then they will be listed in the appropriate section and you can view larger versions of the smaller pictures by clicking on them. Wyrd Miniatures also seem to have stopped putting instructions in things and instead give you a leaflet with a web address on it that leads to a number of links.

I've put them here so you don't need to. Just click on them for larger versions.

No issues at all for me with this one.

Upgrades
One of these can be given to any model with the 'Witch Hunter' type. I'll leave it here rather than put a copy of it in every section.

Assembled
There's a tiny bit of strapping that doesn't appear to have any obvious attachment point so I put it where the box picture appeared to indicate...whether that's where it's meant to go or not is debatable though. Most of the other parts make up the belt and it's attachments...

The only issue I encountered with this model was the two small surface areas with which the top half of the body attaches to the lower half seem delicate. I can foresee some minor issues with keeping the model in one piece should any vigorous dry-brushing be needed....

One piece models...easy, peasy...

Thoughts and comments are (as usual) most welcome.

  1. A VERY helpful site, one question, how do you base your models, is that cork tile, bark or slate?

    1. These are based on slate with sand to fill the gaps. Though currently I use cork because it's easier to shape.
