'Small Box' Cover.

The box set was originally released before Malifaux version 2 and there are still boxes around from the original release. Below are pictures of both versions for reference but this article is for the M2E version and will therefore have pictures of the newer rather than older Stat Cards.

The Pathfinder and Clockwork Traps box contains enough parts for five miniatures...namely the Pathfinder and four Clockwork Traps. It also contains stat cards for them though there are no upgrade cards.

The box itself comes with instructions in it (well mine did at least) but they didn't photograph particularly well...

...so here are the official assembly instructions should you have trouble locating them. Just click on them for larger versions.

Pathfinder - Assembled

The model is fairly easy to assemble except in one are that we'll look at in a bit. Each part has a fairly obvious location point and the instructions are clear enough...the one issue is the weapon strap...

This is a tricky bit. Aligning the gun in such a manner that the arm overlaps at the right angle to enable the strap to fit in the two location points is somewhat problematic. I thought I had it right but it slipped a little after I applied the glue as you can see from the below picture. A bit of filing will sort it out so it's not a complete disaster but it's definitely worth paying close attention to...

Clockwork Traps - Assembled

These models seem to have a terrible reputation but my experience of them wasn't bad at all. Follow the instructions, dry-fit the alignment before gluing and you should have no issues. The 'jaws' have a very specific location on the main jaws 'body' which can be found with a little perseverance but this is the only bit that may be an issue. When removing the jaws from the sprue I'd recommend making sure that your cutters have a decent 'close' edge or use a scalpel as removing bits of sprue from them when they're separate is more problematic as they're quite flexible.

By removing the square 'pip' from the back of the mechanism you can change the angle that the part attaches to the tentacles so you can alter the pose should you be unhappy with four identical Clockwork Traps and the jaws angle of opening is also fairly customisable if you don't mind a bit of scalpel work......
