Unboxing Malifaux - Tara's 'Herald of Obliteration' Starter Box

Apparently some Tyrants are too lazy to do their own dirty work...

The 'Herald of Obliteration' box contains enough parts for six miniatures...namely Tara, her Totem Karina (5SS), The Nothing Beast (10SS) and three Void Wretches (4SS each). It also contains stat cards for each one and nine upgrade cards (It's possible that there should only be eight as I had two Void Shield ones), Three (possibly this should be two) 0 cost ones, four for Tara, one that's for Tara or The Nothing Beast and one that's for Karina.

This makes the Soulsstone value of the box...

Tara (0), Karina (5), The Nothing Beast (10), Void Wretch (4, 4, 4) Total (27) or (30) with a maximum Soulstone cache and (37) with maximum 'out of the box' upgrades.

The box has two sprues in it as well as the aforementioned cards...

You can see larger versions of the pictures by clicking on them and they're high enough resolution so you can copy them to your own desktop and zoom in if you so desire. There's also a 'Nightmare' version of this crew the unboxing of which can be found here.

Stat Cards

Lets have a look at each of these in turn...should there be any assembly issues with any of the models then they will be listed in the appropriate section and you can view larger versions of the smaller pictures by clicking on them.

Instructions

Tara
The Sprue

Assembled
Be careful when removing the sword from the sprue as a couple of the parts on the hilt are quite small. The rest of the parts fit neatly into obvious indentations and the assembly order is somewhat obvious so this model should offer little challenge to assemble.

Karina
The Sprue

Assembled
The right hand is quite delicate as are the trailing parts of the dress bow so be careful with these parts. Everything else is straightforward.

The Nothing Beast
The Sprue

Assembled
The body sections are quite substantial so bring up no issues and the arm location points are obvious. Slightly less obvious are the tentacles locations. One goes on the front and the other attaches behind and the location points can be seen in the close-ups of the head amongst the assembled pictures below. It's also worth noting that I didn't use the insert that goes in the bottom of the model as I wanted to blend the base into the rocky terrain...at the moment it's kinda balanced on the top but that was a personal choice rather than something that was forced upon me by the model.

Void Wretches
The Sprue

Assembled
One has a tiny separate foot...other than that there's no real issues with any of them. It's also worth noting that once assembled they are identical in appearance to the ones in the Nightmare version of this crew the unboxing of which can be found here.

Here's a group picture...

Thoughts and comments are (as usual) most welcome.

  1. The size difference between the Nightmare and 'regular' Nothing Beast is really throwing me off...

    1. To be fair the regular version of the Nothing Beast is of a similar scale to other equivalent monster models in the Malifaux range whereas the 'nightmare' version is just huge compared to pretty much everything, lol.

  2. Yeah, Nightmare Edition Nothing Beast makes the normal one look puny.

    1. I think that's the point. The 'Nightmare' Whiskey Golem is bigger than the regular one as well. If they were the same then it wouldn't really be a 'Nightmare' version...it'd just be an alternate sculpt.

  3. Really finding your unboxings useful for crew selection, tips on putting the models together and driving up my lust for the accursedly expense Nightmare versions of things. So, 2 out of 3 ain't bad ;-) Keep it up - thanks!
