Unboxing Malifaux - Amphibious Assault

"Where's your mummy?!?!?"

I purchased this as part of one of Wyrd Games special event sales and if you're not quick off the mark they sometimes run out of boxes, lol. If you purchase this at some point it'll look more like the picture above than the pictures below...one would hope...

The 'Amphibious Assault' Story Encounter contains enough parts for ten miniatures though nine of those are the same three Gupps three times. It also contains scenarios for use in the game of Malifaux and a scenario for use in the Wyrd Games 'Through the Breach' RPG.

The 'Amphibious Assault' models have been based on the Wyrd Games 'Bayou' base inserts which I purchased from my FLGS Titan Games.

For those of you who are interested in such things the soulstone value of the box is...

Spawn Mother (9), Gupp Swarms (4, 4, 4) and a single (1) soulstone upgrade card which is 22 soulstones worth though in practice some of these models will appear as the game progresses through summoning and the like rather than being deployed as part of the crew. It's also worth noting that as it contains a Henchmen it can be used as a stand alone crew box though not for games of any significant value and is best used as a compliment to other crews.

Sprues
The box has four sprues in it as well as the aforementioned cards. Here's pictures of both sides of them all...

Stat Cards
Wyrd Games didn't like my publishing pictures of both sides of the stat cards so you'll have to make do with just the fronts...

Story Encounter Booklet
Here's some sample pictures from the aforementioned scenario booklet.

Lets have a look at each of these models in turn. Should there be any assembly issues with any of the models then they will be listed in the appropriate section and you can view larger versions of the smaller pictures or instruction pictures by clicking on them.

Instructions

Some General Notes on Assembly
Many of these models contain quite small parts so depending on how dexterous you are you might consider getting yourself some tweezers. Dry-fitting is also always a good idea in case a part needs a tiny bit of extra filing or filling as some of the fits are quite tight. Where the parts on the sprue are quite thin (chains, weapon shafts, cables and the like) then it might be better to remove parts with a sharp scalpel rather than cutters.

Spawn Mother - Assembled
The model consists of large easy to handle parts and the location points are fairly obvious making this model delightfully trouble free.

Gupp Swarm
You get three sprues each containing three identical Gupps so you can mix and match them as you wish. You get three 40mm bases to place them on though if you're a tight arse quite frugal you could acquire another base or two and spread them out...

Gupp A - Assembled
(This one is 'A' on the sprue but 'B' on the official instructions). This one is in three parts but only one is particularly small. The spine recess might need trimming as sometimes the 'fin' doesn't completely fill the hole leaving a gap at the bottom.

Gupp B - Assembled
(This one is 'B' on the sprue but 'A' on the official instructions) This is relatively speaking the most complex containing six parts. I had some issues with this model when trying to align the two arm pieces as I could either get them to match at the body or at the wrist but not both. A tiny bit of filler material added into the offending area should be all you need to do to rectify this.

Gupp C - Assembled
(This is the only one where the sprue letter and the instructions match with both being 'C'.) This one has four parts, two of which are legs and one of which is a small face segment (the jaw).

In the interest of completeness here's a comparison picture of both the original models and the newer plastic ones...

Thoughts and comments are (as usual) most welcome.
