Unboxing Punkapocalyptic - Mutards

Bad Roll Games recently took their 'Punkapocalyptic' game to Kickstarter in order to fund a new faction called 'Black Blood Children'. Unfortunately for me they also had a 'basically everything we've ever made plus the new stuff' pledge...they gave it the slightly snappier name 'Wasteland Hoarder' but the principle was the same...so now I own four Punkapocalyptic factions...

...so lets start with some background info on the Mutards, a look at what is in their starter set and then what else is available for that particular faction...

Editors Note - This particular article is VERY picture heavy.

Mutards
No one knows exactly when did the first mutants started to appear, but there were rumors about people with strange powers even before the population was expelled from the Megalopoli and threw out to the Wasteland. Their origins can vary a lot; maybe all the chemical agents and radiation levels accumulated in the marginal areas back in the days took a heavy toll on their inhabitants, or they might be the flawed outcomes of sinister genetic investigation experiments, or just plain and simple natural selection. The fact is that their ranks have increased notably since people have been forced to live in the Wasteland.

Mutants are not very popular in the area of Scrapbridge and most people have reactions that vary from grudging acceptance to hunting posses in some towns. The fact is that everyone calls them Mutards now, a derogative name that might come from the union of “mutant” and “bastard”.
As a rule of thumb Mutards are not very well equipped, as usually nobody trades with them, but they possess a wide array of mutations that can counter that drawback.
Organisation
Some individuals with small mutations try to hide their condition to the others, while those far beyond human appearance are shunned even in the most open-minded places. Most mutards have established themselves in their own settlements or gangs, whether to live in peace or to start a “pure” colony populated exclusively with what they see as the next evolutionary stage. The better known of these places is The Twins, and old nuclear power plant.

They are usually led by the beings known as Bobbleheads, individuals whose intellect has been boosted beyond human limits. Their superior brains allow them to achieve wonders such as telekinesis, telepathy, mental control… in exchange of weak and crippled bodies. Brute force is the realm of the Pit Beasts, huge mutated and vicious creatures that live to fight. In the lower level of the pyramid there are the Addlers (something similar to the zombies of the old world movies) which for some reason don’t attack the mutards. And of course they have their pets, similar in shape to a common dog (well, with four legs and a mouth full of teeth, at least) known as Mongrelmorphs.

Note - The metal models come with a plain 25mm 'slot' base and the later resin ones come with the same size base but without the slot...

Mutards Starter Set
There is a starter set available for this faction composed by five Mutard miniatures.

Mutards Starter Set - Unassembled
Here's a look at the starter set models in their unassembled form. Currently these are metal though it's possible that resin versions may come later as the more recent models in the various factions are resin.

Mutards Starter Set - Assembled
The starter set includes a Bobblehead, Mutard (mace and sure feet), Mutard (medium blade and extra limb), Mutardess (medium blade, brutal charge and sharp tail) and Mutard (small blade, organic missile and frog). The pictures below are in the same order as the above written descriptions but to be honest which is which is pretty obvious...

All were fairly simple to assemble with the exception of the Mutard with the extra limb who has a couple of quite fiddly tiny 'hooks' on the stump of one arm which I have a feeling I'm going to be gluing back on quite regularly, lol.

Also available are a number of Mutard models you can use to expand your force. Available are Mutard - mace, tough skin and resilient, Mutard - medium blade, hunk, prehensile limb and sonar, Pit beast - heavy blade and extra limb, Mongrelmorph and some additional Mongrelmorphs unlocked during the recent Kickstarter.

Mutards - Additional Models - Unassembled
Here's a look at both sides of the additional models in their unassembled form. Some of these particular models are metal and others are resin.

Mutards - Additional Models - Assembled
The resin model is single piece, the rest are multi-part as you can tell from the unassembled pictures above.

This imposing fellow comes on a 40mm base rather than a 25mm one...

Mongrelmorphs - Assembled
Two of these Mongrelmorphs (the darker resin ones) were unlocked as part of the new faction Kickstarter so I'm unsure about when they'll be available via normal retail.

If you happen to have missed them you can find the other articles at the links below.
