Unboxing Wild West Exodus - The Enlightened Starter Box

I've recently been drawn into the world of Wild West Exodus and to the surprise of no-one at all I've ended up going with 'The Enlightened' as my chosen faction.

I've been purchasing mine through my local game store Titan Games though they can also be obtained direct from the Wild West Exodus website.

First a brief bit of background about my chosen faction...
The Enlightened
The greatest scientific minds of a generation have been twisted and corrupted by the whispered words of a dark and mysterious force. Once, in another reality, soaring towers of graceful steel would have risen up into the sky built by these men. But now brutal machines of destruction, powered by the very essence of evil, seek to crush the ignorant beneath their iron weight. Medicine that could have saved countless lives now drags the helpless dead back into the land of the living. Mindless automatons moving solely at the direction of these crazed geniuses. Men so convinced of the purity of their own motives and ideals that nothing can be allowed to question them. Once heralded as the saviours of mankind, they now stand to provide the tools and weapons set on destroying all living things on earth.

As at the time I'm writing this the game is currently in the middle of beta testing for a version 2 of the rules some of the unit names have changed slightly and as near as possible I've tried to use the version 2 name in the descriptions. I have however used the description from the box to name the pictures as it was easier for me to keep track that way...

The Enlightened Starter Box
The Enlightened starter set consists of one Boss (Dr Carpathian), one Sidekick (Schultz Kaufmann), Ten Construct Hired Hands (Five are Long Range, Five are Close Combat), One Construct armed with a special weapon (Shotgun)...and some bases for them of course...

The characters in this set are resin models consisting of a small amount of parts. The rest of the models are multi-part plastic miniatures though they are all individual in pose. As the game itself is at this time of writing undergoing beta testing the box itself doesn't come with stat cards. I've shown the current version of the cards in each section but these will no doubt undergo changes as the beta-test progresses.

Dr Carpathian - Assembled
This model is mostly one piece to which the head and a rock beneath one leg is added. Other than the usual clean-up required with resin models this one was issue free.

Schultz Kaufmann - Sidekick
Schultz Kaufmann - Unssembled

Schultz Kaufmann - Assembled
This one requires the arms adding to the main body and a large piece of cloak attaching to the rear. The cloak section wasn't a great fit (you can see the gap on the pictures) so it'll require a bit of filling before I undercoat...unfortunately this sometimes happens with resin but shouldn't be much of an issue to solve.

Constructs - Hired Hands
Constructed Menials
The Constructed Menials models are armed with a mixture of close-combat weapons and pistols. In game term they are armed with a pistol.
Constructed Menials - Sprue

On a positive note each part on the sprue is individually identified with a letter so you can easily identify which part goes with which model...however some of those parts are a bit fiddly...Most of the legs consist of three parts (that's three per leg...not three in total) and the majority also have a quite small piece that completes the spine and is located at the base of the skull. You'll want to be systematic with these but as long as you're patient they're not as bad to put together as the parts count makes them first appear.

I've taken pictures of both sides of the models but as the rears are fairly generic I've just done a single picture of a few examples rather than do five individual ones...it's at the end of the section...

Constructed Henchmen
The Constructed Henchmen models are armed with a mixture of rifles and dual pistols. In game term they are armed with a rifle.

Each part on the sprue is individually identified with a letter so you can easily identify which part goes with which model. As with the 'Menials' the legs consist of a significant amount of parts and the majority also have a quite small piece that completes the spine and is located at the base of the skull. You'll want to be systematic with these but as long as you're patient they're not as bad as the parts count makes them first appear.

This model is described as a 'Heavy' on the box but in the current rules version seems to be a unit upgrade for the Constructed Henchmen.

Fortunately this ones legs don't consist of six parts though there are a few small parts on the sprue.

Thoughts and comments are (as usual) most welcome.
Should you ever choose to purchase something based on one of my features or reviews then it would be nice if you could let the company know where the inspiration came from...who knows...they might be grateful to the poor unappreciated blogger who sent you their way...if however I've put you off a product...well...you can keep that info to yourself...
