Unboxing Malifaux - Alternate Hungering Darkness

"I've been eating rather well lately..."

The Hungering Darkness box contains enough parts for one miniature...namely the alternate sculpt of the Hungering Darkness. It also contains a stat card for it though there are no upgrade cards.

Editors Note - Though I've included comparison pictures at the bottom of this feature you may want to see the original version unpainted and if so you'll want to look at this older unboxing feature HERE.

Alternate Hungering Darkness - Sprue
The box has one sprue in it which was actually bigger than the box but that might just be how they packed them for dispatch as this was a GenCon order so arrived boxed with several other miniatures (some boxed and some bagged) as well as the aforementioned card. Here's pictures of both sides of it...

Alternate Hungering Darkness - Stat Card
Wyrd Games didn't like my publishing pictures of both sides of the stat cards so you'll have to make do with this...

Should there be any assembly issues with the model then they will be listed in the appropriate section and you can view larger versions of the smaller pictures or instruction pictures by clicking on them.

Alternate Hungering Darkness - Instructions

Some General Notes on Assembly
Many of these models contain quite small parts so depending on how dexterous you are you might consider getting yourself some tweezers. Dry-fitting is also always a good idea in case a part needs a tiny bit of extra filing or filling as some of the fits are quite tight. Where the parts on the sprue are quite thin (chains, weapon shafts, cables and the like) then it might be better to remove parts with a sharp scalpel rather than cutters.

Alternate Hungering Darkness - Assembled
The top tentacle on the left as your facing it from the front partially creates the indentation into which the tentacle next to it fits so you'll want to attach that first. Other than that assembly order is largely irrelevant as the model consists of nicely substantial and easy to locate parts. For some reason the instructions show one of these tentacles as being in three parts but it's actually only two.

Most pieces have mould lines on them which are quite obvious but easy to remove with either a file or my preference which is a sharp scalpel. Also the model does overlap the base quite substantially as you can see from the pictures which I know bothers some people more than others...mines based on a resin floorboard base so he matches the rest of my own Jakob Lynch crew.

Alternate Hungering Darkness - Comparison Picture
Here's a couple of comparison pictures between the original starter set version and the new alternate one...the difference is...significant...

Alternate Hungering Darkness - Rotational View
Here's an okay Gif and a video of debatable quality so you can see some of the detail I may have missed in the above pictures...

Thoughts and comments are (as usual) most welcome.
Should you ever choose to purchase something based on one of my features or reviews then it would be nice if you could let the company know where the inspiration came from...who knows...they might be grateful to the poor unappreciated blogger who sent you their way...if however I've put you off a product...well...you can keep that info to yourself...
