Tyranid Project - Part 4 - Tyrannofex

I've seen a lot of different ideas about how a Tyrannofex should look...

One things for certain it'll be a cold day in hell before I model one anything like the picture in the codex (because it looks like a crab that's carrying a pepper pot around in it's groin area for no apparent reason).

Fortunately the Tyrannofex codex entry has this statement in it

" The precise nature of this weapon is different from creature to creature. Each represents a particular pinnacle of Tyranid bio-weaponry and is efficient as it is unearthly in its design "

Which I have took to mean " Hey GMort, we can't be arsed to release a model for this yet so just do whatever you damn well fucking please "

So I have ;-)

The green stuff needs tidying up and there's still a few armour plates I need to add to hide a few little bits I'm unhappy with but overall I've decided I like it.

TYRANNOFEX, RIGHT SIDE VIEW.

TYRANNOFEX, LEFT SIDE VIEW.

TYRANNOFEX, FRONT VIEW.

TYRANNOFEX, ANGLED VIEW.

I've also built another couple of Hive Guard, I've added another armour plate to cover the head join I wasn't happy with but it looks (from this angle at least) like It needs a bit of green stuff to fill in the gaps.

HIVE GUARD x3.

Thoughts?

  1. i think the guns are a tad long imo, all the other nids looked about right

  2. @Mike - I actually like them long. They seem to look longer on the pictures than they do if you look at the model. Proportionately they're only slightly longer than the Hive Guards guns. You'll see it 'in the flesh' on Sunday and you'll see what I mean.

  3. @Mike - It's unfortunately impossible to discuss the length of something without it sounding like bad porn movie dialogue, lol.

After 3 attempts I just gave up and posted the comment as is...

  5. My intention was to make it look like a larger version of the Hive Guard to give the army a unified look. Not sure I succeeded with that but I'm happy with it the way it turned out regardless.

Transporting the bastard thing is going to be my major problem with it.

  7. @ Mike - I've built the body section of the Trygon that's going to be the Swarmlord and based it so I don't need to Proxy that model.
If it's okay with you I'll use a 'Rifleman' Dread to 'Count As' the 2nd Tyrannofex, and some Spawn (the tentacle ones from my Daemon list) to be the Lash Whip Hive Guard. If I roll improbably well for Termagaunts I'll just use Guardsmen or something equally lame instead.

I fucking hate 'Proxying' models but I need to start testing this list ASAP so I have little choice really.
