Incoming mail - Jump Pack Blood Angels.

E-Mail:

Hi,

I hope you don't mind me emailing, it was a bit awkward writing comments all the time.

Have you played or played against a full Jump pack BA list such as this?

Librarian, Jump Pack (Blood Lance, Sanguine Sword)
2 Sanguinary Priests with Power Weapon and Jump Pack
10 man Assault Squad, 2 eltagun, Powerfist, Meltabombs
10 man Assault Squad, 2 Meltagun, Powerfist
10 man Assault Squad, 2 Meltagun, Powerfist
10 man Assault Squad, 2 Meltagun, Powerfist
5 Sanguinary Guard, 2 Infernus Pistol, Banner

Anythoughts on competitiveness of a list like this? Or extended to 1750 ?

Reply:

Yes I've played against lists like this and they have some good points and some bad ones.

Killing that many Marines is never particularly easy, killing that many Marines with Feel no Pain even less so. Unfortunately (In my opinion) Assault Marines aren't quite as good in a fight as you'd expect and will die to dedicated close combat units fairly readily. Also any army with access to cheap expendable units can 'bubblewrap' themselves making it impossible or difficult at least for you to get short range Melta shots into vehicles on the turn you land.

Vanguard Veterans got a bit more realistically priced (pointswise) in the Blood Angels Codex than in the Marine one and with the Blood Angels more accurate deep strikes the chance of you being able to assault something on the turn you land is pretty high.

This list is buried somewhere in the depths of the blog so I'll repost it for your convenience :-)

What you add for 1750 is largely a matter of personal preference. I'd probably tweak the points a bit and take a 2nd Vanguard unit if it was me.

Chumbalaya, The_King_Elessar and a few other people who occasionally comment on my Blog probably have their own opinions on what's 'optimal' but if you take what I posted as a core I don't think you'll go far wrong.

Thoughts?

  1. Does adding Dev Squads or Rifleman dreads go against the grain of this type of list?

  2. As a Deep Striking pure Jump Pack list won't be arriving till turn 2 at the earliest, the Devs add/or Rifleman's would be the only thing on the table to shoot at. I doubt they would survive long enough to be useful in that scenario.

They do however work fine in Hybrid or Semi-Mech lists but that's a different concept altogether. Hybrid lists are another solid competitive list that you can do with the Blood Angels codex. I can post a few if you like?
