Throne of Skulls - Alex S

Another one.....

A Few Words From Alex.

Much like everyone else going to the new edition of “GT” i came into it with underlying doubts about its content as a tournament. I was pleasantly surprised when after the event i came back with the exact opposite reaction.
In most of the games that i played i thought that all of my opponents were very good people as i was dreading getting “that guy” who queries every decision, measures every move of every model, and who is the rules Nazi who has to argue every little thing. Most if not all the armies that i had the opportunity to play against were very well painted (which i have to say puts mine to shame but...what doesn’t) which was a joy to play against. The one stand out thing that i can most remember is  Pedro Kantor’s orbital bombardment hitting a land raider redeemer hitting it dead on and causing it to blow up taking 2 storm shield terminators with it through shrapnel (which is about the most a single unit killed out of that squad!) and then my opponent and myself laughing about it and commenting “ now isn’t that how it should’ve worked at Rynn’s world”
All in all a very enjoyable tournament though as a lot of people have said its more of a hobby weekend than anything which if you’re like me then you’ll probably enjoy more.

And now the pictures.

Game 1.
Vs. Eldar.

Game 2.
Vs. Space Wolves.

Game 3.
Vs. Eldar.
Unusually for Warhammer (and 40K especially) Alex's opponent was a girl gamer or in internet speak 'A Unicorn' which is apparently a reference to their rarity, lol.

Game 4.
Vs. Tau.

Game 5.
Vs. 'Vulkan' Space Marines.

Thoughts, Comments and other input is (as usual) most welcome.

  1. I was under the impression that the Unicorn was something more rare even than the female gamer; it was the female gamer who is interested in the game as competitive practice first and foremost, and operates on the same form-follows-function fluff-ain't-rules plane as the tournament player - in fact, a 'top tier' player distinguished from others by their gender, and little else.

  2. @ Von - If you say so, lol.

Girls who play Warhammer 40K are so rare where I am that the female player you just described would be a Unicorn made of Gold, with 3 diamond encrusted horns and angel wings.....

  3. Wins, losses?

At least it looks like there was a decent amount of variety in armies and lists at this tournament.

It'll be interesting to see if they tweak anything for next year, or run an actual tournament alongside it. Maybe make it clear to people who won? And how exactly you do 'win'?...

  5. A word or two about the games would be awesome beyond words. Looking at pictures get's old pretty quick...

What happened, did you win, lose, charge, get charged. Aaargh, not knowing what you're looking at is torture!

  7. @ GDMNW - I was hoping that the individuals in question would make comments about their own games. As I was dipping in and out of 8 games going on simultaneously I couldn't really do it myself. Next time I do something like this I'll compile brief 'bat-reps' after each game while it's fresh in each persons mind...

This was my first attempt at such a massive undertaking so it wasn't ever exactly going to be perfect, lol.

  8. @ Citizenwilliams - After I've done the last 3 lots of pictures I'll do a post asking for peoples input so I can improve the whole thing for the next time.
