Unboxing Malifaux - Marcus's 'Claw and Fang' Starter Set

Lions* and Tigers* and Bears*, Oh My.....

* Doesn't actually contain Lions, Tigers or Bears...

The 'Claw and Fang' box contains enough parts for six miniatures...namely Marcus, his Jackalope Totem (2SS), Myranda (8SS), Cujo (8SS), Sabretooth Cerberus (9SS) and a Razorspine Rattler (7SS) It also contains stat cards for each one and six upgrade cards four of which are for Marcus (two are 'limited' so you have to pick one or the other) and one for Myranda and one that can be given to any upgradeable model with the 'Beast' type.

This makes the Soulsstone value of the box...

Marcus (0), Jackalope (2), Myranda (8), Cujo (8), Sabretooth Cerberus (9) and Razorspine Rattler (7) Total (34) or (37) with a maximum Soulstone cache and (42) with maximum 'out of the box' upgrades.

The box has two sprue sets in it which divide into six sections between them as well as the aforementioned cards...

Lets have a look at each of these in turn...should there be any assembly issues with any of the models then they will be listed in the appropriate section and you can view larger versions of the smaller pictures by clicking on them. Wyrd Miniatures also seem to have stopped putting instructions in things and instead give you a leaflet with a web address on it that leads to a number of links.

I've put them here so you don't need to. Just click on them for larger versions..

Cujo.
Note - Cujo currently comes supplied with a 40mm base but getting him to fit on it has been causing people issues (you can get his feet on it but the upper body overlaps a great deal). Wyrd Games have therefore changed the base size to 50mm and are (presumably) going to change the included bases accordingly. Therefore depending on when you acquire your starter set you may also need to get yourself a 50mm base from somewhere...

There were a few spots where the fit wasn't perfect. Easily sorted but worth noting...

For those of you who are interested in how this set compares to the earlier metal one here are some comparison shots.

Thoughts and comments are (as usual) most welcome.

  1. I love everything in this box apart from Marcus! I've got the alt Marcus to use instead :)

    1. It's a significant change of look, admittedly.

I like both versions but you make a good point about 'Alternate' Marcus as it's a lovely model.

  2. The only model I had previously is the snake, which I think actually looks better than the plastic.

Is it worth mentioning the bases discrepancy for Coco?

    1. You make a good point. I'll update the article with a note about the base size issue.
