Road Trip to Nottingham.

I dragged my unfortunate partner and daughter to Warhammer World today to see how some friends of mine were doing in the 'Doubles' Tournament.....

The event itself has inspired several potential blog articles. At least one of which will be called 'Why scenarios from the Battle Missions book should never be used in a tournament ever'....

As i don't really want to steal my friends thunder in any way, I'll be e-mailing all the pictures I took of his last two games to him so he can turn them into Battle Reports of some kind. I'll settle for posting some slightly blurry, reflection filled pictures of the 'best painted' nominations.

Dark Eldar and Some Dark Eldar?

Dark Eldar and some NOT Dark Eldar...

Imperial Guard and Space Marines.

Orks and Orks.

Dark Eldar and Eldar...Again.....

Imperial Guard and.....Imperial Guard.....

If your first thought is 'why the fuck did most of these people bother to go to a doubles tournament when both team members were using the same codex' then we're on a similar wavelength.....They do look pretty though.....

  1. I played in one of the doubles last year and one of the main reasons you saw a lot of teams using the same codex was that going outside of the allies list was hugely detrimental to your chances. If that system is still in place this year that would explain a lot.

    1. You may have a point there.

There was an 'allies' matrix which ranked some alliances as 'trusted' and some as 'unholy' or some similar terminology and there were associated rewards and penalties. Personally I think that such penalties stifle creativity...

The missions were poorly balanced as well from what I saw.

      You'd be absolutely right.

One: fluff ain't rules and restricting player choice out of respect for the background ain't respectful to your players.
Two: fluff says Necrons and Blood Angels can be mates now, anything goes.
Three: fluff says no, fanfic/hobby says yes (Curis did this with his Ork Genestealer Hybrids to justify allying with Tyranids and they look smashing).

Pick your 'excuse' for an 'unlikely' or 'unfluffly' alliance and roll with it. Anything's better than the sacred cow of the Allies chart...

    3. Tyranids were forbidden from allying with anything on the allies Matrix at this particular event.
