I've been messing around with this concept in one form or another for a while now but I think I've finally found something I'm happy with.

Rune Priest joins one unit of Long Fangs, The Cyclone Missile Launcher Wolf Guard goes with one of the others.
The Wolf Guards armed with Claw and Combi-Melta go with the Wolf Scouts leaving the others either as a single Land Raider hunting Melta unit or to bolster the existing Grey Hunter Squads.
15 Frag Missiles should be plenty of anti-infantry and light/medium anti-tank is pretty much everywhere. Plus there's enough Melta scattered around to help out and if necessary the Wolf Guard can turn the Grey Hunter units into additional 'suicide' units should I be unfortunate enough to face a Land Raider Spam list.
It also is relatively simple to fill out to 1750 and 2000 points by the addition of extra Grey Hunter Squads or spare Razorbacks via Long Fangs. Some Speeders would be nice but I think this particular list may be able to do without them especially at the 1500 points level.
Thoughts and Comments are (as usual) most welcome.
Gave the concept it's first test tonight and it performed remarkably well. Despite a poor first round of shooting it recovered nicely.
ReplyDeleteBoth the Wolf Scouts and attached Wolf Guard units were 'units of the game' and have earned themselves a permanent place in the list ;-)
Glad to here it. Did the Wolf with CML add much? At 63 points he is almost a Land Speeder on his own...
ReplyDeleteIf you are only using the Wolf Guard as squad leaders you could replace the fourth Razorback with a second speeder.
@ Lyracian - The Terminator supplemented the fire-power of the Long Fang unit quite nicely and since I already have a model it seemed like a good opportunity to use him.
ReplyDeleteHaving the Wolf Guard with a Transport enables me to deploy them as a single unit for hunting tanks I really want dead. The last game I used them in, I kept the 3 Combi-Melta guys as a single unit and charged them forward with 2 of the Troop Razorbacks either side and they made a real mess of the Tau once they reached them.
If I drop anything it will probably be the Hunter-killers as they're doing bugger all for me at the moment.
