Over £100 to make a decent unit of beasts, which got nerfed in the FAQ. GW has offered obscene prices in the past for sub-standard units, but I think this really trumps the lot.
ReplyDelete@ Lycaeus_Wrex - How were they nerfed in the FAQ?
ReplyDeletePower through Pain only affects the Beastmaster now, not the beasts. So no more FnP or FC on the Razorwings/Khymeraes/Clawed Fiend.
ReplyDeleteSingle metal blisters.... wow.... sales are going to rocket i bet.... a nice multipart plastic set of like 5 (i'd like more but lets not get carried away) beasts... not too much to ask for is it?
ReplyDelete@ Lycaeus_Wrex - Even taking the 'Nerf' into account they're still a scary unit if configured right.
ReplyDelete@ A.D. - I agree, but GW knows that people who want to use the unit will pay the price regardless.
@Gmort. Whilst yes, if configured correctly they can be dirty, using said configuration with these new models will cost way in excess of £100. If you charge a massive premium for metal models you at least expect them to either a) work really well on the table or b) operate in small enough squads so as to offset the high cost.
ReplyDeleteThe Beastmaster unit can achieve option a, provided that money is no object and that the DE player is willing to spend as much as an entire army in plastic, on one unit.
@ Lycaeus_Wrex - I think you underestimate just how much people are willing to spend. Back when everybody believed that Bloodcrushers were the 'uber' unit in the Daemon Codex I saw several armies at tournaments with the maximum 24 in. That was long before they were available in plastic.
ReplyDeletePrice puts off the casual buyer, but most tournament players will drop as much financial resources as they need on a project if they think it'll help them win.
I guess I do. Damn, 24 metal Bloodcrushers?! *shakes head* That's a silly amount of money. But hey, it's out of there pocket not mine, I can't justify that kind of expenditure but then again I'm not really a tournament player.
ReplyDeleteEach to their own. Its just a shame that enough people *will* spend that much, which only acts as an incentive for GW to continue charging such high prices.
