Unboxing Malifaux - The Brewmasters 'Closing Time' Starter Box

Alcohol is meant to be bad for you...except if you're a Gremlin apparently...

The 'Brewmaster' box contains enough parts for six miniatures...namely the Brewmaster, his Totem 'Apprentice Wesley' (3SS), Fingers (10SS) and three Moon Shinobi (6SS each). It also contains stat cards for each one and five upgrade cards four of which are for the Brewmaster and one that's for any model with the Tri-Chi type.

This makes the Soulsstone value of the box...

Brewmaster (0), Apprentice Wesley (3), Fingers (10), Moon Shinobi (6, 6, 6) Total (31) or (35) with a maximum Soulstone cache and (41) with maximum 'out of the box' upgrades.

The box has one main sprue in it as well as the aforementioned cards.

You can see larger versions of the pictures by clicking on them and they're high enough resolution so you can copy them to your own desktop and zoom in if you so desire...

Sprues
Some small parts had fallen off the sprue and somebody at Wyrd Games had kindly put them in a tiny bag for me.

Stat Cards

Lets have a look at each of these in turn...should there be any assembly issues with any of the models then they will be listed in the appropriate section and you can view larger versions of the smaller pictures by clicking on them.

Instructions

Like all my other Gremlin models they're mounted on Wyrd Games 'Bayou' Bases.

The Brewmaster
The Sprue

Assembled
Be careful when removing the staff from the sprue as it's long and thin (well...relatively thin). The location points for each part are fairly obvious and their are more than adequate recesses for parts to go in. Even the separate feet slot in nicely.

Apprentice Wesley
The Sprue

Assembled
You'll probably want to dry fit the arms...especially the one holding the rope. I didn't so the rope was a fraction out when it came to meeting up with the appropriate point on the rear. It wasn't a big issue but it's worth noting. It does have separate feet but they have more than adequate surface area to attach without problems. Also as the head rests on the arms you'll want to leave the attachment of the head until after you've glued the arms on.

Fingers
The Sprue

Assembled
Only four parts in total and even the small string part in the hand lined up perfectly.

Moon Shinobi
The Sprue
As mentioned earlier there were a couple of bits that had fell off the sprue and were in a bag. I doubt that's going to be how they come as standard though...

Moon Shinobi 1 - Assembled
The head is in two parts but they align well enough so it's not an issue and everything else locates well too.

Moon Shinobi 2 - Assembled
This model is actually meant to have both feet flat on the ground but once I tried it out like this I liked the look so I kept it.

Moon Shinobi 3 - Assembled
The joint between the hand and the bottle (the finger) is quite thin so be careful with this part. I put the head on first before adding the arm that it's resting on...you could probably get away with doing it the opposite way around but you wouldn't have much room to manoeuvre.

Here's a group picture.

Thoughts and comments are (as usual) most welcome.

  1. They look great together and the detailing on things even like Fingers' bag looks great.

    Thanks for this unboxing.

    1. I got mine through my local gaming store Titan Games last weekend. Usually Wyrd gives the stores a few weeks head start before they put them on their web store but you can get them now from local stockists.

  3. Thanks again for all your good work. Just received my Closing Time box in the post today, and the sprue is missing two arms, just like yours was. The same arm has come off Moon Shinobi 1, but it's the other arm that's missing from Moon Shinobi 2. But no little plastic bag in my box containing the missing pieces :-(
