Viktorias 'Hired Swords' New Vs. Gencon Comparison

It's a bit of a wordy title but it's apparently something that people are interested in...

For those of you who are unaware there was a bit of an issue with the early releases of the new M2E Viktorias. The issue was one of scale as basically one of the Ronin was about nine feet tall in comparison to the others and the Student of Conflict (a child, effectively) was bigger than the crouching Viktoria, lol. The Viktorias themselves were a bit oddly scaled as well...

Titan Games have kindly took some pictures of a newly assembled M2E crew next to some of the original Gencon ones for me so you can all see the difference. The new versions are much improved...which probably means I'll be about to paint my fourth lot of Viktorias...

The new sprue.
It's difficult to tell the difference just from the sprue...don't worry comparison pics will follow...

Comparison shots.
The difference is more obvious with some models than others...but it's definitely there..

Ronin.
There's also a shot of the worst culprit...the aforementioned 'giant' Ronin...

The Viktorias and Taelor.

and the Student of Conflict...

So there you go.

Thoughts and comments are (as usual) most welcome.

  1. If placed upon the same bases, how would Malifaux miniatures size up compared to Games Workshop? Few mm smaller? The same? Few mm taller?

    1. It depends on the miniature but generally they're of similar height. The primary difference is that Games Workshop models use a more stylised and 'blocky' set of proportions whereas Wyrd use a more realistically humanoid scale...well as realistic as fantasy figures get, lol.

  2. Thanks for posting this. Iv'e heard a dozen snippets of this story, but now it's finally clear. Any word on what the resolution from Wyrd will be?

    1. Wyrd have obviously taken peoples issues on board which is why they've been re-scaled. I'm not sure if they'll do anything for the people who bought the earlier version though.

  3. Nathan Caroland of Wyrd has said to stand by for the holiday chaos to die down and then they will resolve it for customers.

    1. Well that's very generous of them considering the cost involved in doing that.

Yet another justification for why I'm a big fan of Wyrd Miniatures.

  5. It is wonderful news that they addressed this issue. It is refreshing to see a company so focused on costumer support. They are making a fantastic line of miniatures even better!

I feel there are a few other cases of odd scaling. The most notable that I have seen is how much larger one of the death marshals is from the other two.

  6. the crouching death marshal is supposed to be giant from what Nathan was saying

  7. I know this comment is a bit late to the party, but any idea if one were to order this box today from on online retailer, would we expect to get the "fixed" models, or is there still a chance the old giants are in the wild?

(BTW, I love your unboxing articles, being able to see all the models in each crew has really helped get me interested in Malifaux and figure out what crews I want!)

    1. The 'Giant' versions were the GenCon stock which should be long gone by now. The chances of you getting one of the old boxes is very low indeed.
