Unboxing Malifaux - Leveticus's 'Salvage and Logistics' Starter Box

There's usually a witty comment here but I couldn't think of one about an old man who uses teenage girls to revitalise himself that wouldn't offend some-one...feel free to make up your own if you wish...

This is the 'Black Friday' version...I'm guessing that the retail one will have the usual model renders on the rear...

The 'Salvage and Logistics' box contains enough parts for nine miniatures...namely Leveticus, Rusty Alyce (10SS), three Hollow Waifs (0SS each) and four Steampunk Abominations (4SS each). It also contains stat cards for each one and five upgrade cards three of which are for Leveticus, one that's for Rusty Alyce and one that can be used by either Leveticus or Rusty Alyce.

This makes the Soulsstone value of the box...

Leveticus (0), Rusty Alyce (10), Hollow Waifs (0, 0, 0), Steampunk Abominations (4, 4, 4, 4) Total (26) or (31) with a maximum Soulstone cache and (39) with maximum 'out of the box' upgrades.

The box has two main sprues in it as well as the aforementioned cards...

Stat Cards

Lets have a look at each of these in turn...should there be any assembly issues with any of the models then they will be listed in the appropriate section and you can view larger versions of the smaller pictures by clicking on them. Here's the instructions as well...just in case...you can enlarge those by clicking on them as well...

Editors Note - Somewhat confusingly the numbers on the instructions (Hollow Waif 1, 2, etc) don't match the numbers on the sprues. I've used the sprue numbers for the assembly sections for no better reason than that's how I labelled the pictures when putting together the article, lol.

Leveticus.

The Sprue

Assembled
The only minor issue with this model I found was that aligning the three part bottom section of the coat wasn't as easy as I hoped but to be fair that problem would have been alleviated if I'd have dry-fitted it first, lol.

Rusty Alyce

The Sprue

Assembled
Her hands are quite small and the gun barrel is a little thin so be careful when removing them from the sprue but they attach to the model without issue.

Hollow Waifs

The Sprue

Hollow Waifs - General Assembly
Some thin arms and the obligatory 'why does that bit need to be separate' parts but none of them are that tricky...well there's a couple...we'll talk about them in the appropriate sections though. The usual advice about dry-fitting parts and careful removal of parts from the sprues obviously apply as normal.

Hollow Waif 1
There's a tiny bit of her hair that's separate that I managed to glue to my thumb...twice...so be careful with that...

Hollow Waif 2
The main model itself is simple to assemble as the parts are fairly substantial and the locations fairly obvious though I'd recommend carefully dry-fitting the skirt section as it may need a tiny bit of work to get it to fit flush though any gap can easily be filled with 'Liquid Green Stuff' or similar...and then you get to the pearls...

Yes, there are two strips of pearls that go over the one arm...they're quite thin and some care should be taken when removing them from the sprue. I couldn't tell from the pictures exactly where they were to go but they seemed to sit nicely in this position so that's where they went...

Hollow Waif 3
No problems. There's a thin bit of ribbon at the rear of the model but it sits flat and has an obvious location point.

Steampunk Abominations

The Sprues

Steampunk Abominations - General Assembly
The usual advice about dry-fitting parts and careful removal of parts from the sprues obviously applies to these especially as there are some thin pieces and a delicate tube here and there.

Steampunk Abomination 1
Each of the 'arms' has specific location points on the model though one of them could if you wished be put on pointing in a different direction as it only has one point of contact.

Steampunk Abomination 2
One of the eye 'spikes' is separate while the other is part of the model. There are also no obvious (well at least not to me) attachment points for the tubes so I just put one set on each side as the instructions seemed to indicate.

Steampunk Abomination 3
Fairly large parts on this model with the exception of the separate lower jaw so once that's out of the way the model is issue free.

Steampunk Abomination 4
Each 'chainsaw' limb has a different shaped location point so the assembly of this model is surprisingly straight forward.

Here's a group picture.

Thoughts and comments are (as usual) most welcome.

  2. This is by far the best looking plastic set that Wyrd has released so far. It also shows how the production process has improved. The all look amazing, thanks for taking the time to put them together and share pics.

    1. I was assembling this set last night and couldn't fit Levi's coat properly - I have nice gap where he has a belt with his tools but I see you had similar problem :D

  3. How are you attaching the plastic to the green stuff bases? (sorry if this is explained somewhere else)

    1. I just use a dab of superglue and that's more than adequate to keep a plastic model attached to green stuff. If there's any flash or sprue on the feet of the model then you can push it into the green stuff slightly but that's obviously not a consistent option though you can push the feet into the green stuff very slightly when it's wet in addition to the superglue .

    2. Thanks for the info! I am experimenting with bases and trying to decorate them with green stuff before gluing the model on. Now to find a way of making super glue not dry up after 1 use haha

    3. They're a little more expensive but you can buy Superglue in smaller types of 3ml dispenser and in the long run that might actually work out cheaper as there is less wastage should you need to throw one away.

      Just an idea...
