Unboxing Malifaux - Vintage Rasputina

"Yes it is a bit chilly now you mention it..."
The Vintage range of miniatures are sometimes found in prize support 'mystery boxes' as well as available to purchase via Wyrd Games various sale events or via their 'Guilder' scheme if you're lucky enough to be (or be willing to perform 'favours' for) a local Henchmen or attend certain events...I acquired mine via one of the aforementioned sales...it also came in a bag rather than a box...making this an unbagging I suppose...

The Vintage Rasputina bag contains enough parts for one miniature...namely Vintage Rasputina. It also contains a stat card for her though there are no upgrade cards.

Rasputina
Many people come to Malifaux to find a new life, where they can earn Soulstones and make their dreams a reality. Others arrive under the watchful eye of the Guild to serve out a punishment for crimes committed Earthside. Rasputina arrived in such a manner, but quickly escaped from the labor camp she was consigned to and fled into the wilderness.

Where she went after her escape, how she managed to evade recovery, and when she met the being known only as December, no one knows. All anyone can say for certain is that she left the chain gang as a beautiful and strong willed woman and when she returned, she was still beautiful and strong willed but she also had the ability to control the weather, able to pull up a severe snow storm out of thin air. While the exact terms of her engagement with December has remained shrouded in mystery, it is clear that she has become a threat. While she is loosely associated with Miners and Steamfitters Union, it is always her own will which holds ahead of all others.

Such is her skill at controlling the weather that she can create objects and creatures by freezing water in the air and command them to her will, whether her goal is the destruction of an opponent or as a utility to aim her own chilling spells from a protected position. True winter is a terrifying time for her enemies because they can never be sure if the storm blowing in is natural or the only warning they will have before she descends upon them.

Vintage Rasputina - Sprue
The bag has one sprue in it as well as the aforementioned cards. Here's pictures of both sides of it...

Vintage Rasputina - Stat Card
Wyrd Games don't normally like my publishing pictures of both sides of the stat cards but as the stats for their masters are on their website I don't think it matters in this case...

Should there be any assembly issues with the model then they will be listed in the appropriate section and you can view larger versions of the smaller pictures or instruction pictures by clicking on them.

Vintage Rasputina - Instructions
Couldn't find any official assembly instructions so you'll have to make do with my pictures I'm afraid...

Some General Notes on Assembly
Many of these models contain quite small parts so depending on how dexterous you are you might consider getting yourself some tweezers. Dry-fitting is also always a good idea in case a part needs a tiny bit of extra filing or filling as some of the fits are quite tight. Where the parts on the sprue are quite thin (chains, weapon shafts, cables and the like) then it might be better to remove parts with a sharp scalpel rather than cutters.

Vintage Rasputina - Assembled
So you'll need to add the main body to the cloak and then attach the chest and arm assembly to that then add the head. I attached the front cloak piece before the left leg as it seemed to be easier to align them that way. The cloaks belt ribbon then attaches to the front in a convenient gap. The long cloak piece remaining then attaches to both the main cloak section and the front piece. The separate hands then attach to the arms. The hands are small and the fingers quite delicate so be careful with these pieces both when attaching to the model and when removing them from the sprue. The only other point to be careful of is the belt ribbon which is thin but not prohibitively so.
The waist area does need some care when aligning the various parts as you can get a slight gap above the one leg so dry-fitting is as usual a good idea. There's a similar issue that can occur on the right shoulder where the cloak sections align so take the same care at that location.

Vintage Rasputina - Comparison Picture
Here's a comparison picture between the original metal version and the newer plastic one and a group shot of the four versions I currently have...

Here's a rotational view...

Thoughts and comments are (as usual) most welcome.
Should you ever choose to purchase something based on one of my features or reviews then it would be nice if you could let the company know where the inspiration came from...who knows...they might be grateful to the poor unappreciated blogger who sent you their way...if however I've put you off a product...well...you can keep that info to yourself...

  1. Does Wyrd still have an issue with showing Cards? I can go to wargamers vault and basically see them all. They also specifically state that players are free to print them out on their own. It may be worth checking with someone to determine if this is still really the case.

    1. I haven't checked for a while, I'll ask the powers that be.
