UKGE Publisher-Designer Events

We had a successful Wyverns Lair at Expo 2016 as well as hosting our largest ever prototype area run by Playtest UK but wanted to develop the whole game design theme even more this year.
The aim is to create events of interest to Publishers, Indie Publishers and up and coming designers and make UKGE the best place to go to find out about making games as well as playing them.
So we have put together a Publisher-Designer Track of Seminars and Events and activities. Here then is what we are currently planning for you.

Playtest Zone

Playtest UK will run the Playtest Zone in Hall 1 throughout all three days of Expo. Everyone is welcome to visit this area for game designers and playtesters. Just bring along a playable prototype of a board game or card game that you are developing and receive comments from members of the gaming public. Or play the games and give feedback to help the designers to improve their games and be entered into a prize draw. Find out more.

Wyverns Lair

This event will feature 12 entrants whose game ideas were chosen by the Wyverns themselves. Last year there was a phenomenal response with 50 entrants from which we had to select just 12 for the event on Saturday afternoon. We anticipate a similar number of pitches to be considered this year.
The live event will take place on Saturday 3rd June at 3pm. We bringing in changes to the format and we hope to improve on last year's event.
One major change is that we will be involving the Wyverns in the selection of designers invited to present their game. This is why we are asking entrants for a single A4 page pitch made up of words and images. We expect to see some really great game ideas for the Wyverns to review.
The closing date for entries to the Wyverns Lair is the 20th April, so you still have plenty of time to prepare your pitch. But don't be late - you will be disappointed if you miss it! More details here.

Meet the Makers Speed Dating

Meet the Makers Speed-Dating is an opportunity for 12 invited games designers to pitch their game to 12 different publishers during a single evening; a different publisher every 5 minutes. When the time is up, the publishers will move on to the next table. The designers will be invited on the strength of a submitted sales sheet. Entry is open to everyone regardless of background or experience. The deadline for submissions is 29th April 2017.
To find out more about the event and how to apply to be one of the invited games designers please visit our Meet the Makers Page

Meet the Makers Networking

Meet the Makers Networking is a session for games designers and publishers to meet up in a relaxed environment for a chat and maybe to play a game prototype, especially if more time is needed after discussions at the Speed-Dating event or Wyvern’s Den. This will be a private event from 9pm to 10.30pm on Friday 2nd June.
