Sunday Round-Up

Been a bit more productive this week though some of that was courtesy of some pictures of new Malifaux releases from the Black friday sale sent to me courtesy of a helpful blog reader. Fortunately my only small pile of purchases have now arrived so I can put together some features of my own...

My FLGS Titan Games recently ran the first official Batman Miniatures Game tournament in the UK and some coverage of the event can be found here.

There's also the usual newsletters from Forge World, Hasslefree Miniatures, Mantic Games and the like though you'll have to look in the side bar for them as I haven't updated the 'Newsletter' tab for a few weeks...I'll sort that out over the Christmas holiday...

Not as tricky to assemble as you'd think...even the three-part Gremlin head isn't that bad...

Christmas may have some effect on the posting schedule as family commitments tend to take priority this time of year...I know it's inconvenient but I'm a victim of social convention I'm afraid, lol.

Star Wars Imperial Assault - A Guest Unboxing

It was a miniatures game involving Star Wars characters so it was inevitable that some-one at my local hobby store Titan Games would purchase one as soon as it arrived...

..it was also of no surprise to any-one locally that the person was Tom (Citizen_W from his blogging days). He's kindly interrupted his frenzied opening of the product in order to take some pictures though I'm afraid any actual product review will have to wait until he's stopped making Squeeeee noises, lol.

Editors Note - He stopped long enough to give me some very brief first impressions though a detailed review will follow at some point.

First Impression.
The first thing that struck me about the box was its weight. Fantasy flight products in general are overflowing with tokens and extra bits but even compared to a similar game like Gears of War, Imperial Assault is a weighty beast. After basking in my new box smell I gave the literature and tokens a cursory glance before diving in to the minis. As you'd expect from FF all the printed material is top quality even if I did get annoyed popping out all the tokens.

Minis.
They appear to be the standard Fantasy flight hard plastic like Dust Tactics or their large box miniature board games. 99% of them are of a high quality and look amazing, Darth Vader (the mini I was most excited about after the storm troopers) is a little lacking. Its also a shame that the Luke included is farm boy Luke but as these are expansion pack models thrown in for free its a small gripe. The Rebel minis are really interesting and each show a little personality but for me its all about the Imperials. 9 Storm troopers is a little bit of an odd number but apparently I may just be missing one.

Until I can get an objective review of the game here's Fantasy Flight Games's own blurb...rather confusingly the website says this game isn't yet released...I hope I'm not getting any-one into trouble...

Unboxing articles pretty much always start with a picture of the box even though people are more interested in the contents...

The bit people care about...however the bit you're really interested in (the models) will be at the end...you know...to build up the suspense...

The Models.

I'm waiting to see some of these appear as crews or characters in some other game system as proxies...it'll happen...you know it will, lol. A couple of the pictures are a bit blurry but you can still get a good idea of the quality of the miniatures...

The 'Ally' and 'Villian' Packs.

Ally/Villian packs are the names given to the expansion packs for this game of which the first are included. You may recognise these two...
