John Carter of Mars Tabletop RPG Kickstarter
Over the last month we have been funding the John Carter of Mars roleplaying game and miniatures range over on Kickstarter. Based on the writings of Edgar Rice Burroughs, this uses a stripped down more narrative version of our 2d20 RPG system.
We have £300/ $400 worth of beautiful highly detailed resin miniatures covering the heroes of Helium, villain of Zodanga, Thark Warband and Beasts of Barsoom. The miniatures rules will let you play fun battles using battlefield terrain, or our planned tile sets. These are the same high quality and scale as the Fallout: Wasteland Warfare minis.

We've also unlocked 5 books include the core rulebook, Swords of Mars campaign (including miniatures rules), and three era based supplements packed with setting info, locations, NPC's, the plots of the books, custom dice, a beautiful hand crafted leather bound Barsoom Edition of the core book, Leather notebook and dice bag, Prince of Helium notebook journal and there's much more to come.

More on Fallout: Wasteland Warfare and the John Carter of Mars Kickstarter...

BACK OF THE BOX & RELEASE UPDATE
PLUS JOHN CARTER OF MARS MINIATURES

I can almost feel the heat of the irradiated wasteland! We've had approval from Bethesda to show off the back of the Two Player PVC starter box for Fallout Wasteland Warfare which should give you an idea of what's coming your way!

As you can see we can also reveal that in the PVC set the figures are pre-assembled in a coloured plastic ready to play out of the box (the resin version is unassembled). Since we're giving you a complete rulebook, there's now a simple 8 page 'Getting Acclimated' tutorial booklet to get you up to speed without having to absorb everything. Remember we're taking pre-orders online, or head in to your local gaming store. Next week we aim to have a retail locator set up to help you find local stores who are participating in the pre-order. We'll be sharing images of the PVC test production once it's approved.

PRODUCTION & LAUNCH UPDATE

The core book and all the base game cards are all in approvals with Bethesda (they've signed off all the design and imagery already). Meanwhile we're getting them the campaign book and tutorial this week for sign off and then have the final cards for the rest of wave 1 to complete and approve. We're also well in to production of the three main core sets in resin as we know there's huge demand for those.

We've had to allow more time for Bethesda to approve the extensive content and with Chinese New Year fast approaching (the factory shuts down for the whole of February) we decided to move the release to May. This does mean you have longer to place your online pre-order with us to guarantee shipment at launch - till the end of Feb. Orders after that may will ship a little later depending on demand.

As soon as the rules are approved we'll be sharing them in PDF along with the unit cards and weapons needed to play the basic battles. I know many of you are waiting on info about the narrative side of the game - both settlements and campaign mode, as well as the solo/co-op mode. As soon as the team have completed the submissions we'll be back on doing videos and play throughs and solo and settlement is first on the list. Expect those to start up in another week along with more painted previews. If you haven't got your order in head over to our online pre-order

JOHN CARTER OF MARS MINIATURES

In the meantime we've launched a project on Kickstarter which also involves 32mm scale miniatures - John Carter of Mars! We've been working on this for a couple of years now and has been a labour of love to recreate those awesome characters.

As well as a beautiful landscape roleplaying game book we've been funding a line of 32mm scale miniatures with resin bases (something we like as standard with all our lines). Starting with the obvious heroes John Carter, Dejah Thoris, Tars Tarkas the giant Thark warrior and faithful Woola we've since expanded it to include Sab Than and his Zodangan navy crew, more Heroes of Helium, a mighty Thark Warband and we'll soon unlock a simple miniatures rules set for playing battles on the skyships or across the ruins of Barsoom. You'll even be able to play ship to ship battles with our deck plans which double as the ships themselves so you can circle each other on the tabletop, engaging with batteries before jumping aboard for a desperate boarding action!

Here's a quick scale guide and some examples of the sets below - as you can see the mighty green Tharks tower over the humans at around 70mm! Check out individual sculpts here

If you like the look of these you can grab the Heroes of Barsoom set for just £25 which includes the PDF of the RPG core book then add on the sets you like. Alternatively there's the whole Swords of Mars Miniatures Collection which includes every miniature set unlocked in the Kickstarter for £150 - with more sets like the Helium Fighting Crew and Beasts of Barsoom still to come.

If you know someone who might be a John Carter fan please share with this them, the Kickstarter page is at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/modiphius/john-carter-of-mars-the-roleplaying-game/description

Thanks for listening and we'll be back in touch soon with solo and settlement updates, plus new pictures of pro-paints to show off

Chris, Modiphius

New from Modiphius...

CONAN 2d20 CONVERSION FOR JOHN CARTER OF MARS

Hi there as you know we loved working with the Robert E Howard estate to create a truly authentic roleplaying game experience based on his Conan stories. We've followed that by working with the Edgar Rice Burroughs estate on an officially licensed roleplaying game based on the John Carter of Mars novels. The John Carter of Mars roleplaying game has been another passion of mine and a long time coming. I delayed the launch so that the core book was completely written and approved by the estate so we could turn it around much quicker. We've finally launched on Kickstarter and already surpassed £100,000 in just 5 days.

To celebrate this we've decided to create a conversion guide for Conan 2d20!

The roleplaying game for John Carter of Mars was designed in 2016 as a streamlined version of 2d20 but following on with the success of Conan: Adventures in an Age Undreamed Of, many people requested that the two systems be made as interconnected as possible. Some wanted their Conan characters to seek out adventure on Barsoom with the more narrative mechanics, others wanted a more traditional array of attributes, skills and talents for heroes on Barsoom, and still others wanted a crunchier game system where characters felt more at risk than they do using the combat rules from John Carter.

The plan is to create a downloadable conversion guide free to anyone who has pledged for the £15 John Carter of Mars Core Book PDF Pledge or higher. If you like the idea of adventuring on Barsoom using your Conan 2d20 system then head over to the Kickstarter page and select at least the £15 pledge or higher (which gets you the core book in PDF). There's also plenty of other great Pledges such as the Starter Set, PDF Collection, or John Carter Dotar Sojat!

The Conversion guide will feature full rules for converting characters and creatures from Barsoom to the Conan version of 2d20. All the Martian races will be fully convertable to Conan rules. The Bestiary and Arsenal of Barsoom will be fully converted to Conan standards, along with common weapons of the 1890's and there will be rules for humans visiting Barsoom from the Hyborian age.

Here is an example of how Martian firearms would work using the Conan version of 2d20:

Martian Firearms are the product of millennia of development and refinement that predates the evolution of many Martian races. Minimal training is needed to become proficient in their use and after having seen one fired, any character with the Ranged Weapons skill can use one. Working out how to use a Martian Firearm through trial and error requires either a Daunting (D3) Lore, Challenging (D2) Alchemy or Sorcery test.

Pistol: Range (Medium), 5[cd], Size 1H, Radium bullets
Rifle: Range (Long), 5[cd], Size 1H, Radium bullets

Radium bullets special rule.
Radium bullets gain the Intense and Vicious 2 special rules during daylight whereas at night the bullets are simply Vicious 1. A character firing Radium bullets in daylight can spend 2 Doom to trade the Intense quality for the Area quality.

We have already unlocked a lot of beautiful 32mm scale multi-part resin miniatures of the heroes and villains of Barsoom. Later we plan to add sets of geomorphic tiles that will match the same design as the Conan tile sets. These will cover the sprawling ruins, ancient palaces and airships of Barsoom. There will even be a set of rules for fighting games between the Helium and Zodangan airships (represented by different size tiles) with crews leaping across in boarding actions or fighting amongst the ruins below. Check out the Stretch Goals, and the various PDF, dice and miniatures we've unlocked below:

You can download a sample chapter here, along with the character sheet.

Please share this with friends and come and join us on Kickstarter. Remember you can just pledge £1 to get the Updates and decide later.
