CONAN 2d20 CONVERSION FOR JOHN CARTER OF MARS

Hi there as you know we loved working with the Robert E Howard estate to create a truly authentic roleplaying game experience based on his Conan stories. We've followed that by working with the Edgar Rice Burroughs estate on an officially licensed roleplaying game based on the John Carter of Mars novels. The John Carter of Mars roleplaying game has been another passion of mine and a long time coming. I delayed the launch so that the core book was completely written and approved by the estate so we could turn it around much quicker. We've finally launched on Kickstarter and already surpassed £100,000 in just 5 days.

To celebrate this we've decided to create a conversion guide for Conan 2d20!

The roleplaying game for John Carter of Mars was designed in 2016 as a streamlined version of 2d20 but following on with the success of Conan: Adventures in an Age Undreamed Of, many people requested that the two systems be made as interconnected as possible. Some wanted their Conan characters to seek out adventure on Barsoom with the more narrative mechanics, others wanted a more traditional array of attributes, skills and talents for heroes on Barsoom, and still others wanted a crunchier game system where characters felt more at risk than they do using the combat rules from John Carter.

The plan is to create a downloadable conversion guide free to anyone who has pledged for the £15 John Carter of Mars Core Book PDF Pledge or higher. If you like the idea of adventuring on Barsoom using your Conan 2d20 system then head over to the Kickstarter page and select at least the £15 pledge or higher (which gets you the core book in PDF). There's also plenty of other great Pledges such as the Starter Set, PDF Collection, or John Carter Dotar Sojat!

The Conversion guide will feature full rules for converting characters and creatures from Barsoom to the Conan version of 2d20. All the Martian races will be fully convertable to Conan rules. The Bestiary and Arsenal of Barsoom will be fully converted to Conan standards, along with common weapons of the 1890's and there will be rules for humans visiting Barsoom from the Hyborian age.

Here is an example of how Martian firearms would work using the Conan version of 2d20:

Martian Firearms are the product of millennia of development and refinement that predates the evolution of many Martian races. Minimal training is needed to become proficient in their use and after having seen one fired, any character with the Ranged Weapons skill can use one. Working out how to use a Martian Firearm through trial and error requires either a Daunting (D3) Lore, Challenging (D2) Alchemy or Sorcery test.

Pistol: Range (Medium), 5[cd], Size 1H, Radium bullets
Rifle: Range (Long), 5[cd], Size 1H, Radium bullets

Radium bullets special rule.
Radium bullets gain the Intense and Vicious 2 special rules during daylight whereas at night the bullets are simply Vicious 1. A character firing Radium bullets in daylight can spend 2 Doom to trade the Intense quality for the Area quality.

We have already unlocked a lot of beautiful 32mm scale multi-part resin miniatures of the heroes and villains of Barsoom. Later we plan to add sets of geomorphic tiles that will match the same design as the Conan tile sets. These will cover the sprawling ruins, ancient palaces and airships of Barsoom. There will even be a set of rules for fighting games between the Helium and Zodangan airships (represented by different size tiles) with crews leaping across in boarding actions or fighting amongst the ruins below. Check out the Stretch Goals, and the various PDF, dice and miniatures we've unlocked below:

You can download a sample chapter here, along with the character sheet.

Please share this with friends and come and join us on Kickstarter. Remember you can just pledge £1 to get the Updates and decide later.
