Wyrd Games 'The Other Side' Kickstarter - Production Models

Wyrd Games have been running a Kickstarter for a game set in the same world as Malifaux but this time on the Earthside of the Breach. Details of the Kickstarter itself can be found here though there's also a link in my blog sidebar as well. I have been fortunate enough to get hold of some of the models a bit early and though the bases will be different on the finished product the models themselves are pretty much the finished product.

Normally there's more background in my articles but as there's only a day or so left of the Kickstarter to go I figured I'd just let the models do the talking...

A few people have asked about ease of clean-up so after taking the pictures I had a go at removing the mould lines from the Infiltrators leg. Though slightly harder than the plastic Malifaux models are made from I easily removed the leg mould lines with a sharp scalpel (my preferred method of clean-up). As long as the models with the Kickstarter are of the same material I can foresee no issues with tidy-up whatsoever. A few have very minor gaps that may require filling but they're so small that the undercoat might even be enough to cover them...I'll do some experimenting later...

Infiltrator - Kings Empire
Apparently the gun on this one is going to be bulked out a little to make it sturdier.

Striped Skulker - Gibbering Hordes

Yarazi - Gibbering Hordes

The Frenzy - Gibbering Hordes
I removed this one from the base to make it easier to photograph which is why the angle changes from picture to picture...but you get the idea...

Thoughts and comments are (as usual) most welcome.

  1. What do you think of the PVC blend and how does it compare to Malifaux's plastics? Any chance you can try filing or trimming to see how easy it will be to clean mold lines?
Thank you as always for the great blog!

    1. I've added a paragraph about that to the article now ;-)

  2. What, no assembly steps? :D

Seriously though, how is the clean up. I'm looking at those mold lines down the infiltrator legs and while they're easy to get at, I'm worried about the ease like Malkyr is.

  3. I see the Infiltrator's gun is slightly bent - have you tried straightening it and if so, how did you do it and how well did it work?

    1. I haven't tried yet but I'll give it a go and let you know if there's any problems. For what it's worth though I've been informed that that particular models weapon is getting made a bit bulkier on the final version so it being bent wont be an issue for the Infiltrator at least.

    2. Thanks for the reply. It'll be interesting to find out how well it can be reshaped, even if this particular part isn't an issue on the final version.

  4. In comparison to Malifaux models: what do you think about the level of details and the sharpness (especially of the infiltrator compared to other "human" models)?

    1. In a side by side comparison, being super-picky I'd say that the Malifaux models are marginally sharper but the difference is so negligible as to be meaningless, imo at least. Of course as I only have one humanoid model it's not exactly a lot to jump to conclusions from. I'd say that once undercoated you wouldn't notice a difference but I won' be testing that till tomorrow as it's both dark and raining where I am currently.

    2. That sounds good. Thank you for your fast reply and overall work.

  5. These are single-piece miniatures, right? I believe Wyrd said they come pre-assembled or in a single piece. Are they on sprues then or how do/will they come packaged?

    1. Not sure about packaging but these models were all pre-assembled.

    2. Will the same be for the titans? It looks a little awkward to pack and ship those models in one piece.

    3. They've done pre-assembled models before so I'm guessing the packaging will be done in a similar way...
