Terminator Spam.

I want to do a Terminator 'Spam' army, however I'd like to do it without handing my opponent a big 'auto-win' button every time I play a game.

The issues I'm going to have are.

1) Terminators aren't very mobile.
2) Power/Chainfisting Land Raiders to death is tricky if your opponent is inconsiderate enough to move them about (Bastards.....lol).
3) Terminators aren't cheap points-wise and it gets worse if you actually give them extra equipment.

S0 I'm not going to be able to max out on Terminators and maintain a viable list. 20 Terminators + Characters is about the best I can realistically get away with.

The following lists are just basic outlines at the moment but it never hurts to get 2nd opinions before you start converting stuff...

Also I know I missed out Grey Knights but have you seen an optimised pure Grey Knights army win a game, let alone a themed one?

Obviously it's possible to cram more Terminators into most of these lists but unfortunately 5th Ed. makes Troops choices a bit more essential than they used to be...

Thoughts?

  1. my grey knights beat quite a few people, though only had one termie squad.

also where's the dark angels? Deathwing was my first 5th ed army and it held its own plenty of times. sure its not as pimped out as the new dexs but most people you play will allow the wargear upgrades, and even without they are still decent enough. mix and match weapons in squads and the ever brilliant all scoring

anyway as for the lists, the space wolves is my favourite though i feel the speeders should be lost for termies and the squads have a bit of variance in wargear after all they have a nice selection and means less conversion.

the other lists just seem terminator heavy rather than themed but that's just my preference.

  2. The Space Wolves list needs ranged Melta and that's the only way to get it into the list.
The Black Templars one has 32 S7 'Rending' Assault Cannon shots so can get away without it.
Though I've had an idea about how to cram some more Terminators into a couple of the above lists and make them still usable(ish).

  3. needs ranged melta? not really, lists work fine without it, sure it helps but you have chain fists and so forth. perhaps a dread with one, switch the emphasis to steady assault and hitting at in unison.

terminators work well either huddled together causing lack of target priority and forcing your opponents in, or precise strikes. drop pods with the wolves maybe entertaining. sure there's plenty you can borrow.

as an aside, i am more than likely to be sighted in sutton store on sunday, mech space wolves in tow

  4. Every Tournament I've been to in the last year I've ended up vs. at least 1 Double or Triple Land Raider List.
Try taking out a single Land Raider that's moved over 6" with anything other than a Melta or Lance Weapon, let alone 3 of the fuckers.

  5. but this list isn't likely to go to a tourney now is it?

and chainfists will get through with enough attacks.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Enough attacks maybe, but it takes 12-18 Chainfist attacks to reliably destroy a Land Raider that's moved over 6" and you see Land Raiders even in non-optimised lists.

Besides which at the moment I'm having a lot of fun with the 1750 version of the list I took to the Games Expo so I'll be using that for a bit.

  7. yeah that list looks nice and kinda hard.

  8. It's fun to use. It has many things that can go wrong but that's what makes it interesting.
Basically I throw 500 points of my army at the enemy and the rest of it tries to kill stuff that's a threat to my Termys before they get killed by it, lol.
And I've almost finished my Terminator Librarian/Rune Priest/Sorceror guy.

  9. Finished assembling I mean, lol.

  10. 1) Pure grey knight lists need MAJOR luck to win games, believe me i know.
    2) Deathwing/ ravenwing hybrids work really well in 5th attackbikes and mass bike bolters fill in the gaps that deathwing. however this isn't a pure termie list was just as an FYI other than that the lists seem solid but as a huge fan of termies as i think most people know i'm not sure any list can take 100% termies and win the majority of competitive games
