Thinking About Army 'Cores'.

I've been thinking about allies in conjunction with standard Space Marine armies. My recent game against Mike has taught me that vehicles can be killed quite easily and that's something I'm happy to benefit from even though it fucks me over as well. Also there's the whole 'Flyer' issue....


I am therefore considering this as a core from which to expand from,

Total Points Cost - 1310

The Dreadnoughts kill Transports and Flyers and now that a unit that has been divided into Combat Squads can share a Transport I can drive a vehicle into midfield and use the old 'Melta-bunker' strategy as well as deploying a dual-Melta 'Tank-Hunter' unit.

It's just a 'core' at the moment. I may go with something completely different as a base when I've got more time to think about it.

  1. Might want to replace one of the Dreads with a Vindicator so you can squash the men that get out of those transports you are popping. Also it needs the Sniper Scouts to give MotF a Bunker. Between Bolster Defence and Camo Cloaks you can get a nice 2+ Cover save.

    If you are playing 2k you can do a silly list with double FOC.

    A bit light on troops but hopefully your opponent does not have the time to shoot at them given how many other units you have.

  2. I can't foresee me ever playing a game at 2K and allowing two lots of FOC as it's massively open to abuse.

    Your right about the Scout Squad I used to use that configuration all the time. I think it was a Stelek idea originally but I suppose some people came up with it independently as well.

    Vindicators are better now but they still only usually get to fire once at most before being shot to pieces...

  3. its very repetitive and rather dull. there's also nothing especially great against a 2+ armour save which effectively got better

    1. 2+ saves didn't get better against me as I kill them by shooting at them lots and against 'rolling a 1' they're exactly as killable as they were before. Even my 'assault' armies work on massed attacks rather than armour nullifying weapons.
