After the arrival of my Devils Run: Route 666 Kickstarter pledge core box and with a few games under my belt I decided to invest in the extra tile sets and expansion deck.
The unboxing of the core box can be found here for those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about.
There were two tile sets available from the Word Forge Games website including three extra double sided tiles and a demolition derby style set of six tiles. The demolition derby set also has rules and are double sided so that they can also be used as extra tiles for the core game. It's worth noting that these tile sets were original Kickstarter extras but due to minimum order quantities they still have some left...so if you like them then I'd grab them now...
Extra Tiles Expansion Set
These tiles have a number of extra obstacle and terrain features primarily themed around 'The Skinners' faction whose name is most definitely accurate...
Here's pictures of both sides with 'a' on the left and 'b' on the right.
Demolition Derby Expansion Set
This expansion set has rules for laying out the race area, a number of race missions (three) and some suggestions for variants. The tiles also have markings on the opposite sides so they can be used as standard game tiles should you so desire.
Here's pictures of both sides with 'a' on the left and 'b' on the right.
Environmental and Personal Agenda Deck
Another useful addition to your core game is this deck of cards including the following: 23 Environmental Cards, 12 Personal Agenda Cards, 2 New Characters Cards, 11 Weapon Cards, 3 Blank Character Cards, 2 Blank Vehicle Cards and 1 Rules Card...and here they are...though not necessarily in that order...
There's a rules card on how to use the environmental cards and the personal agenda cards though some of the personal agenda cards rely on advance rules which are currently a work in progress...
The environmental cards have a variety of in game effects ranging from nothing (Perfect Driving Weather). the mildly inconvenient (Dust Storm) to the downright dangerous (Earthquake) and the occasional attack by zombies...Use of these is considered optional but we've used them from our second game and they've pretty much become ubiquitous now...
These are the earlier mentioned personal agenda cards which were currently holding off using as they're more suited for a campaign setting and we're currently mainly playing one off games. There's also a couple of new character cards whose abilities are geared towards the use of the agenda cards. They will however be getting considerable use later on no doubt...
These will however be getting almost immediate use as who isn't a fan of extra weapons, extra armour...and dynamite...
There's also some blank cards so you can design your own vehicles and characters using the advance rules or just if you fancy using a proxy vehicle of some kind. The vehicles used are the same scale as matchbox cars and the like so the latter is a definite possibility...
In my opinion these are all good starting points for expanding the scope of your games though to be fair the tile sets could be bought between a group of regular gamers...as long as you trusted one of them enough to look after them for you all that is...you'll want an expansion deck each though as I'm sure more than one of you will want some of those weapons...
Thoughts and comments are (as usual) most welcome.
