Chaosium Inc. - Newsletter

Call of Cthulhu, Runequest and Miskatonic University news from Chaosium...
#72 the straight scoop from the well of chaos...

Graduate with Honors - Join our Miskatonic University board game Kickstarter!

It's great to be back making Lovecraftian board games again, after hitting our funding goal on the first day of our Miskatonic University Kickstarter!

We're now at the mid-point of the campaign, and well into Stretch Goals!  The game rules will be published in English, German, French (and, when the coming Stretch Goal falls, Spanish!)

The basic "Professor" pledge is just $25.00. This includes the complete game with all stretch goals and expansions. A great new game by a famous designer at a very reasonable price!
Miskatonic University: The Restricted Collection is Reiner Knizia's game for 2 to 5 players, and takes around 30 minutes to play. In true Lovecraftian style, players are seekers of secret wisdom.

In their curiosity, reckless graduate students have unleashed a nameless horror from the bowels of Miskatonic University's famous Orne Library... The Players are MU professors, desperately searching the treacherous Restricted Collection, looking for fragments of eldritch lore and arcane sigils to help the Chief Librarian, Dr Henry Armitage, defeat it.

But, forbidden knowledge comes at a price...

Players always have the opportunity to go deeper, to push their luck, but in so doing, risk their sanity and their souls.

What's Happening with RuneQuest?

Layout is done, preorders coming soon!

Jeff and Jason have passed on some exciting news: layout and proofreading of RQG is all-but-done ("we're just doing some final finishing up and tweaks"). The book is truly both a thing of beauty, and also a very easy-to-use reference when playing the game.
Stay tuned for an announcement soon about preorders!

Licensee Focus

Two of our wonderful Licensees also have active Kickstarters you might find of interest: one just about to end (last day!); another has just kicked off.

Call of Cthulhu Leather Campaign Journals

TYPE 40's campaign to produce Call of Cthulhu Leather Campaign Journals ("be the dread author of your own story") has been a great success, raising over 300% of the initial $AUD9000 goal and including some glorious stretch goals and exclusive backer-only rewards! But if you'd like to get on board, you'd better hurry - the campaign concludes in just under 24 hours from now.

New Tales of the Miskatonic Valley

And our friends at Stygian Fox have just launched the campaign for New Tales of the Miskatonic Valley 2ed for Call of Cthulhu.

Lauded as authentically Lovecraftian and much loved for of its mood and style, New Tales of the Miskatonic Valley returns with a full-colour second edition. With its new art, varied formats (PDF, Kindle, softcover, and hardback), and an extra scenario, this Kickstarter will make its rightful return to print, uplifted to Call of Cthulhu, 7th Edition.

One day in, the campaign is already very close to funding and concludes on June 1st.

What is Ab Chaos?
(...from Ab Chaos #7, May 31 1992)

Ab - Latin "from"
Chaos - (1) Any condition or place of total disorder (modern vernacular); (2) the disordered state of unformed matter which preceded creation (since Milton, Paradise Lost); (3) the dark, empty space which preceded creation (Greek Mythology); (4) the [formerly] Californian roleplaying game company.

Ab Chaos is an informal newsletter for Chaosium fans. Through our history we have tried to serve the players and gamemasters through craft and art as well as (and sometimes at the expense of) marketing and moneymaking. We appreciate your loyalty, and offer this communication to those who are curious about us, beyond the mere "product".

It is planned to be informal and irregular. We are, after all, not the Orderium.
