Wizkids Newsletter - Sidekick Night

An interesting idea from Wizkids...

Greetings WizKids Fans!

WizKids is excited to announce Sidekick League, a new initiative to introduce players to HeroClix, Dice Masters and Star Trek: Attack Wing! Sidekick League is going to be a casual, fun, and welcoming event series at your friendly local game store. It is not meant to replace the competitive scene that exists in many successful HeroClix, Dice Masters and Star Trek: Attack Wing stores.

How does it work?

Once a month, selected stores can host a Sidekick Night, where veteran HeroClix or Dice Masters players will bring someone who is new to the game and interested in learning, as their Sidekick. They’ll play side-by-side against another player and their Sidekick, with the veteran players providing some advice and instruction. Players will be rewarded just for showing up*! At the end of 3 months, players and their Sidekicks who have attended at least 2 Sidekick Nights will be able to win limited edition HeroClix or Dice Masters prizes. There is no recommended entry fee for Sidekick Night.

*Stores will reward participation prize to each player the first time they show up to Sidekick Night in a Sidekick Season. On the 3rd Sidekick Night, players who have attended at least twice will be eligible for an entry into a random drawing for HeroClix or Dice Masters prizes.

What are the key components to this program?
  • Sidekicks will be paired up with experienced players (either the friend that brought them or if they showed up alone, with a designated person assigned by the store).
  • Sidekicks will play next to their experienced player (ideally against another Sidekick sitting next to their experienced friend) and be allowed to ask their experienced partner questions during a game. Sidekicks will be able to take back moves and otherwise learn as they go with winning being secondary to the learning of the game (especially since the kits don’t have competitive prizes).
  • Experienced players will focus on the Sidekick for the first few games but will eventually be able to play their own games after the Sidekick gets the hang of it.
  • Sidekicks during this program should be allowed to look at all sides of their opponent’s card to better understand what is happening during a game.
