Unboxing Malifaux - Mah Tucket's 'The Bushwhackers' Starter Box

Female Gremlins...Apparently not as rare as we were led to believe...

MAH TUCKET
As the infamous leader of the Bayou Bushwhackers, Mah Tucket is not a Gremlin to be trifled with. She is wanted for untold Guild infractions involving Grand Theft, Assault & Battery, Assault & Battery followed by Grand Theft, Assault & Battery followed by Grand Theft then returning for additional Assault & Battery, and Assault & Battery Just For The Heck Of It.

She wields an enormous wooden spoon, notched by the heads of innumerate fools who thought they could handle one stout old Gremlin in a giant hat. Mah Tucket takes great pleasure in serving up a dose of reality to the unwary with her huge wyrdwood utensil. In her leather-lined apron, she bulls and hollers her way through the Bayou, swatting anyone dumb enough not to move out of her way.

Stout, durable and cantankerous, she is more than capable of standing toe-to-toe with the best of the big folks, and expects the same from her followers. Failure is simply not tolerated and she has a habit of barging to the front to show them how it’s done. And then yell at them about how it's done. And then show them again, just to make sure it really sinks in.

Formed in her image is The Little Lass, her diminutive and terrifying protégé complete with her own spoon, giant hat and fearsome aspect.

Never has cookware struck fear into the hearts of men as it does when wielded by Mah Tucket.

The 'The Bushwhackers' box contains enough parts for six miniatures...namely Mah Tucket, her Totem The Little Lass (4SS), Trixiebelle (8SS) and three Bushwhackers (6SS each). It also contains stat cards for each one and five upgrade cards three of which are for Mah Tucket, one for Trixiebelle and one that's for Mah Tucket or Trixiebelle.

This makes the Soulsstone value of the box...

Mah Tucket (0), The Little Lass (3), Trixiebelle (8), Bushwhackers (6, 6, 6) Total (29) or (32) with a maximum Soulstone cache and (39) with maximum 'out of the box' upgrades.

Sprues
The box has one sprue in it as well as the aforementioned cards. Here's pictures of both sides of it...

Stat Cards
Wyrd Games didn't like my publishing pictures of both sides of the stat cards so you'll have to make do with this...

Lets have a look at each of these models in turn. Should there be any assembly issues with any of the models then they will be listed in the appropriate section and you can view larger versions of the smaller pictures or instruction pictures by clicking on them.

Instructions

Some General Notes on Assembly.
Many of these models contain quite small parts so depending on how dexterous you are you might consider getting yourself some tweezers. Dry-fitting is also always a good idea in case a part needs a tiny bit of extra filing or filling as some of the fits are quite tight. Where the parts on the sprue are quite thin (chains, weapon shafts, cables and the like) then it might be better to remove parts with a sharp scalpel rather than cutters.

All these models are based on Wyrd Games 30mm 'Bayou Base' base inserts.

Mah Tucket
The Sprue

Assembled
This model consists of quite large and easy to assemble parts with only two small ones. There's a 'chicken foot' that goes against one leg and a single arm that's in a 'leaning on hip' pose. During assembly of my model the arm part unfortunately slipped slightly at some point and ended up flat against the side rather than outwards as it should be so don't copy my assembled model for that bit, lol. I may risk attempting to break it off for accurate posing at some point when I'm feeling brave...

The Little Lass
The Sprue

Assembled
Consisting of only four pieces this is a very easy to assemble model. Points to watch out for are the thin arm and spoon that it's holding and the 'pig-tail' both of which are potential breaking points.

Trixiebelle
The Sprue

Assembled
Another four part model that's a simple assembly job. Everything lines up fine as well...

Comparison Picture
No there isn't a previous model to compare this one to...here's something else to compare it too though. Apparently it's a popular pose...

 Bayou Bushwhackers

The Sprue

Bayou Bushwhacker 1
This one lured me into a false sense of security by being relatively simple. The arm aligned well with the gun with only the pigtails on the head and the spiky 'leaves' being potential breakage locations.

Bayou Bushwhacker 2
Lets start at the top...the two-part head-dress separates slightly if you glue the head to one of them first so I'd recommend not doing that but rather putting the two halves together first and then attaching the head though I suppose some trimming could solve that issue. The gun attaches to a small arm piece and the ridiculously thin strap aligns with a strap on the back via a small indentation and I found that I could either align one or the other so I selected the strap and fiddled around with the arm till it was somewhere near and I'll see if it needs a bit of filing before I undercoat. There are many tiny camouflage 'leaves' to attach and I seemed to have one more than the instructions would seem to indicate I should have though it's possible I lost track but I don't think so. The instructions are not helpful as many of them go on the rear of the model and the attachment points aren't obvious. I think I got them in the correct places but I wouldn't bet my life on it so copy my location points at your own risk...

Bayou Bushwhacker 3
You can assemble the two-part hat separately but don't attach it to the model until last as there are some tiny 'leaf' parts to attach around the neck which will be obscured if you do so. The one arm that's folded across the gun attaches over a flat place on it but mine wouldn't quite align perfectly though it was close enough. Two of the 'leaf' pieces fit into slots that only appear once the arms are attached so you'll definitely need to attach those arm pieces first. Here's a couple of pictures of my best guess about there potential locations just before the assembled ones.

Thoughts and comments are (as usual) most welcome.

  1. The sitting down Bushwacker is huge! I wish Wyrd would listen to their customers and do something about their odd scaling. It's stopped me from buying any models for ages. I really wanted to get this set but the scale is putting me off a bit!

    1. It's not that bad once you look at them together. Also even though it's a challenging kit to assemble the end result is a very characterful selection of models that look amazing.

  2. GMort, just found this site and it is an incredible resource. I cannot believe the depth of Malifaux info/unboxings you have here. Would you happen to have knowledge of a Master List of all Malifaux models released? You have to be close to owning every sculpt released by now :-)

    1. I don't have a master list but I do know that a few people have created them over the years. You could try asking on the Wyrd Place Facebook group...if any-one has done one it'll be one of those people...
